Team News:

Royal Challengers Bengaluru
Will Jacks and Reece Topley, two Englishmen, have left the camp and flown back to England with a series against Pakistan knocking on the doors ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup.

-Jacks' exit would vacate the spot for out-of-form Glenn Maxwell, who is a potential like-to-like replacement for the departed English all-rounder.

-Swapnil Singh could swap with Rajat Patidar as an impact substitute, with Vyshak Vijaykumar and Yash Dayal being the other impact options depending on the starting XI.

Chennai Super KingsMatheesha Pathirana was ruled out of the IPL after the Sri Lankan pacer suffered a hamstring injury. He travelled back to his country after the franchise's reverse fixture against Punjab Kings in Dharamsala on May 5. Currently, Pathirana has flown with the Sri Lankan team to the United States of America to adapt to the conditions ahead of the upcoming mega event.

-Mustafizur Rahman is also not available for the Yellow Army. The left-arm pacer returned to Bangladesh for national duties following CSK's game against PBKS on May 1.

-Ajinkya Rahane or Sameer Rizvi is expected to be the impact substitute for the Super Kings if they bat second, while Tushar Deshpande is most likely to be an impact player if they bowl second.

-In a piece of good news for the five-time IPL winners, Deepak Chahar has resumed bowling in the nets ahead of this all-important clash. Chahar, who missed out on a couple of games earlier this season due to niggle, walked off the field after bowling only two balls in the game against Punjab Kings at Chepauk on May 1, pulling up. It didn't look good at first sight, and it remains to be seen if the right-arm pacer would be fit in time for this match.

-Moeen Ali has also left the camp for national duties, featuring for England. Shaik Rasheed might get a game, or CSK might continue with Rahane's experience.
Preview by AkshayaKrishna Polya:

It has all come down to the 'Southern Derby' on Saturday (May 18) for the final place in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 playoffs. A high-flying Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) host the five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Mangalam Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in the 68th match of the ongoing season.

A win or a washout will directly put the Yellow Army in the top four. For RCB to qualify, they need to win under certain constraints. With rain looming, it will be a real testimony of character for the home team. If the Faf du Plessis-led side bat first and, say, has scored 200 runs, then they need to win by at least 18 runs or chase down 201 in 18.1 overs if they bat second. They can also qualify by chasing in 18.4 overs, but they need to hit a six after reaching 200.

If MS Dhoni's batting in the last moments of the game is absolute cinema 🤌🏻, then Royal Challengers Bengaluru's comeback isn't short of cinema as well.

"ಇದು ಆರ್ಸಿಬಿಯ ಹೊಸ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯ" - A statement that means 'This is RCB's New Chapter' made by Virat Kohli during their unbox event ahead of IPL in Bengaluru just gave goosebumps to the vibrant Chinnaswamy crowd.

But things didn't go as planned, leaving the entire cricketing world to mock the Red Devils. They lost seven out of their first eight matches and were glued to the bottom of the points table, almost becoming the first team to be eliminated from the marquee event. All of a sudden, RCB found a surge in form and confidence, winning five on the bounce and stabilizing themselves with 12 points from 13 fixtures. Now, they are in a spot where they can have a shot at the playoffs from being down at one stage in the competition.

On the other hand, the Super Kings don't really have this kind of experience, where they need to sort out the playoff spot in their final league game. CSK have won IPL five times, the joint highest with Mumbai Indians. The Chennai-based franchise has finished 12 times in the top four. At present, they are in fourth, with 14 points from 13 matches, winning seven and losing six games.

It is imperative to mention that CSK and RCB met in the curtain raiser of the current IPL edition, where the defending champions hammered the latter by six wickets. Batting first, the Royal Challengers posted 173/6 in 20 overs. Openers Kohli and du Plessis gave a decent start before Rajat Patidar and Glenn Maxwell were dismissed for ducks. Cameron Green struggled in his first match for the franchise, while the keeper batters Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik steadied the ship with a calculated partnership. Rawat scored a 25-ball 48, while Karthik hit an unbeaten 38 off 26 balls. Mustafizur Rahman was the main artist with the ball for CSK, picking a four-fer, with Deepak Chahar bagging one scalp.

All of the top six CSK batters contributed to the successful chase, with Rachin Ravindra's 15-ball 37 being the highest. Shivam Dube's 28-ball 34* helped the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side hunt down the target inside 19 overs. Green did turn up positively with the ball, grabbing two wickets, while Yash Dayal and Karn Sharma picked up one scalp each.

The momentum is with the home team, who are coming off five consecutive wins. Chennai Super Kings are always a tough team to beat, with a certain guy named Dhoni behind the stumps, keeping a hawk eye over the proceedings. While RCB bashed Delhi Capitals by 47 runs in their previous fixture, CSK steamrolled Rajasthan Royals by 5 wickets heading into this crucial encounter.

The main thing is the team combination for both franchises, given a few vital cogs of the wheels have returned home for respective reasons.

Can Royal Challengers Bengaluru evade a Chennai Super Kings challenge and rain to grab two important points under the necessary conditions that will put them in the top four? Or will the visitors bring out their experience in crunch moments to silence the Chinnaswamy cauldron? To find out, join us at 6:30 PM IST and Local Time on Saturday for its live coverage!
