Match Details
At one stage, it seemed Lahore will be all out within the first 10 overs after an almighty collapse that included a hit-wicket but also more traditional dismissals as Karachi used the swing with the new ball dexterously while the visiting batsmen also committed hara-kiri. At 36/7, Lahore were heading for an embarrassing reverse with only Hashim Ibrahim managing a 22 among the recognised batsmen.
But then Kashif Bhatti (50 off 45) and Umaid Asif (24 off 18) came together to stitch together a fine lower-order partnership. Karachi lost the sting with the ball as sixes kept on raining even after the two departed. In the end, Lahore came within 19 of the Whites’ total, something that seemed impossible in the first few overs. For Karachi, Danish Aziz (3/16) was superb with the new ball, leg spinner Arif Yaqoob also bowled a great spell, while Ghulam Mudassar also picked up three wickets.
Earlier, having been put into bat, Karachi struggled against the extra
bounce to lose quick wickets and had to rely on Azam Khan (41 off 22), and Danish Aziz stitching
together a fine partnership to reach their total. Both got out before finishing
off the job with some good fielding also coming into play.
But in the end,
their efforts with the willow were enough. They had got a bright start with
Ammad Alam (28 off 17) as well. Nishar Ahmad was the pick of the bowlers with
sterling figures of 3/23, his career-best figures. Hunain Shah was also on the
top of his game and picked up three wickets as well. In the end though, their top-order
failures led to a deflating loss.
