Match Details
Mayers carried on with his show at end and got to his first fifty of the season but the match had gone out of the Royals’ hands by then. The Royals’ skipper Rovman Powell also departed in the 13th over off Waqar’s bowling to signal the final nail in the coffin. Mayers produced a few more big shots before his 70-run knock was brought to an end by Ali Khan. In the 16th over, Jason Holder struck a couple of big hits before Sunil Narine castled him. But Holder got a reprieve as Narine had over-stepped. Eventually, Narine did finish with a wicket as Alick Athanaze swept the ball straight to the man at deep backward square-leg. A couple of overs later, Andre Russell also joined the party as Nyeem Young holed out to Pollard at cover-point. TKR continued to chip away with Holder being stumped off Akeal Hosein’s bowling in the penultimate over. In the end, Roelof van der Merwe had some fun with a few big hits but it was TKR who emerged victorious by a big margin.
So, a superb comeback from TKR as they post a 42-run victory after going down to Guyana Amazon Warriors yesterday. Chasing a massive 209 for victory, Barbados Royals needed a terrific start but Rahkeem Cornwall was deceived by Akeal Hosein in the third over. Thereafter, the duo of Kyle Mayers and Laurie Evans managed to get a decent end to the Powerplay with the Royals moving to 46/1. However, the pair of Waqar Salamkheil and Sunil Narine produced dot balls and increased the pressure on the batters. Eventually, Waqar managed to get Evans to sky one to mid-wicket and the keeper completed an easy catch.
