That concludes the presentation and that also wraps up our coverage of the 15th PSL 2023 fixture between Lahore and Zalmi. The home side has won this high-scoring encounter rather convincingly. Join us tomorrow as Lahore takes on United. For now, this is Megh Mandaliya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Saptak Sanyal, and scorer/analyst Chandan Kumar Singh. Cheers!
Shaheen Shah Afridi(Lahore Qalanders captain):-
"All the credits goes to our batters. It was a green wicket and everybody would've wanted to bowl first. We thought we have a long bowling. Abdullah Shafique came back and registered his highest PSL score, so we are going well. Fakhar Zaman was outstanding.
As Sam Billings came, we are having a strong middle order and team is doing good. It is tough to carry the momentum throughout and all the teams are competitive. I sticked to my basics and got success by this."
Fakhar Zaman (Player of the match): "We practiced here for 3 days and we were just talking about not losing wickets in the powerplay. Thankfully, we succeeded in our ploys. We just thought of having 160-170 as that can be defended by our bowlers with ease. Credit goes to Abdullah Shafique, he batted really well. As a batter, I don't have pressure owing to our good team combination."
Babar Azam (Peshawar Zalmi Captain): "I think we started well but the batters succumbed to the pressure. We weren't up to the mark afterwards. I guess 241 is also a huge total. We need to manage the run rate in T20 cricket and the batters did well too but our bowling was not good today. The Lahore batters scored too many runs and if we don't execute our plans, the opposition will keep doing that."
Sikander Raza:- "At no point we though we would loose the game. Even when TKC and Ayub were having a partnership but the fact was the run rate was 10 or 11 and sometimes, which Shaheen, Haris and Zaman including Rashid, who was bit expensive but we had the believe he will take wickets. 14 runs an over for 8 or 9 overs is a huge ask. This is Abdullah's first game and he came back from illness and scored a 50 of 22- odd balls, just the quality he possess and the quality the Qalanders possess, he is one of them."
11:30 PM IST | Lahore Qalandars have started their home campaign with an assertive victory over Peshawar Zalmi. The Shaheen Afridi-led side has overpowered Zalmi by 40 runs in what was a proper run-fest in Gaddafi. Over 440 runs were walloped today, and eventually, it is the home side that will attain two crucial points.

In pursuit of a mammoth total of 242, Zalmi’s spirit was wrecked by the opposition skipper Shaheen Afridi. The left-armer first cleaned up Mohammad Haris 0(2) with a peach of a delivery in the second ball of the chase. Skipper Babar Azam and Saim Ayub, the next batter in, then assembled in a quest to resurrect the Zalmi innings but an inswinger from Afridi proved too good for Babar, who had to walk back after 7(6).

The English batter Tom Kohler-Cadmore, then joined forces with the young Ayub and the duo provided immediate acceleration to the innings. The right-left combination of Kohler-Cadmore and Ayub found boundaries at regular intervals and cruised the Zalmi scorecard to 63 after the powerplay. Rashid Khan was introduced to the attack after the field restrictions but Kohler-Cadmore encountered him with a couple of ferocious shots.

The southpaw Ayub also took on spinners after the powerplay and both Rashid and Sikandar Raza were put under the pump by the duo. Kohler-Cadmore brought his half-century before being dismissed by Haris Rauf for 55(23), with 3 fours and 5 maximums to his credit. That was soon followed by the wicket of well-set Ayub, who departed for 51(34). The  91-run partnership did lay the foundation for the middle order but a couple of huge wickets of Bhanuka Rajapaksa 24(14) and Rovman Powell 20(15) handed complete momentum to Lahore.

Eventually, the target proved too much for the visitors and Lahore Qalandars won their third game of the season quite comfortably. Skipper Shaheen Afridi kept taking wickets at regular intervals and bagged his five-wicket haul (5/40). Zaman Khan also chipped in with a couple of crucial wickets and Rashid Khan also clinched a wicket but the experienced spinner leaked 49 runs in his four-over stint.

Earlier in the day, after winning the flip and electing to bat first, the Zalmi bowlers cashed in on the extra bounce available at the Gaddafi Stadium and distraught the batters with a hard length. Wahab Riaz drew first blood for the visitors by outwitting Mirza Tahir Baig 5(7) with some inward movement. Abdullah Shafique then got together with left-handed Fakhar Zaman but the ball kept lurking past the edge on a swift surface. Despite many stumbles, the left-right duo stitched 36 off the powerplay before Shafique stepped on the gas.

Shafique used his feet exceptionally and went after the spinners after the conclusion of the powerplay while Fakhar was still biding his time at the crease. The duo cruised Lahore to 81/1 at the halfway stage and fairly leveled the contest after a rocky start. Shafique brought up his half-century thereafter and Fakhar too joined the onslaught. The 120-run partnership was ceased by Wahab Riaz by dismissing Shafique for 75(41), including 5 fours and 5 maximums.

Zalmi probably anticipated a turnaround after the wicket of Shafique, however, Fakhar Zaman had other arrangements. The opening batter then joined forces with Sam Billings and went all guns blazing leaving no respite for the bowlers. The duo kept swatting the ball into the bleachers before Zaman 96(45), including 3 fours and a whopping 10 maximums, departed just at the stroke of his century. The gloveman Billings orchestrated a quick 47*(23) and took the Qalandars scorecard to a humongous total of 241/3. Stick around for the post-match presentation!
