Player Bio

A volatile opener who can change the game in a span of a few overs, Fakhar Zaman became an overnight sensation after his flawless maiden ton in an ICC mega final against arch-rivals India. The southpaw cherishes playing the new ball and his driving, hitting abilities have made him one of the most lethal openers in the current generation.

Zaman made his first-class debut in 2013 for several Karachi teams after quitting his naval career in Pakistan Defence. His dream of representing Pakistan was fulfilled when he was called to the board to play the shortest format of cricket against the West Indies in March 2017.

Zaman shot to prominence in the 2016-17 Quaid-e-Azam trophy where he scored 663 runs with an average of 51 which earned him his maiden cap against West Indies. In his first three T20I innings, he managed just 26 runs but backed up by the selectors, he was chosen as the opener in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. Zaman’s hundred in the Champions Trophy final is widely considered as one of the greatest innings of his life. His strike of 114 runs off 106 deliveries included 12 boundaries and three sixes which helped Pakistan post a mammoth total of 338 runs in a resounding victory.

In 2018, Zaman became the first Pakistani batsman to cross the double hundred mark in ODIs. He scored a brilliant 210 unbeaten off 156 balls against Zimbabwe on July 20th, 2018. Ahead of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, Zaman scored a good margin of 138 runs in the second ODI match against England. It was the highest individual total for a Pakistani batsman against England in an ODI fixture which was surpassed by Imam days later in the third ODI.

Zaman is classified as a record-breaker in the current Pakistan squad and he yet again proved it with a blockbusting 193 against the Proteas in an ODI fixture on April 4th, 2021. His knock of 193 is the highest individual score while chasing beating the record of Shane Watson. When it comes to fireworks at the start, Pakistan have high expectations from their high-class openers in the future.
