That is a wrap for the 8th edition of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL). It was great to be covering this enthralling T20 league. Finally, Adelaide Strikers Women won their first WBBL Title. No doubt Sydney Sixers Women were the best team all through the season, but they couldn't get over the line in the final.

Tahlia McGrath (Adelaide Strikers Women Captain): "I am just chuffed winning this. Fighting through this and having a home semi-final and then winning that and getting through and beating a good Sixers side was great.
I am just chuffed and happy to be on the winning side. Last year was tough, we thought we had it, and then to lose to the Scorchers like that was disheartening, to say the least. I mean, this year, we had a mission to win the tournament, and although it didn't start off well, we managed to get the right results. I have loads of people to thank, and my head is reeling.
Thank all the fans who have supported us. It was crazy with more pink in it, but you guys were great. Thank all the fans at the Karen Rolton Oval who have supported us through thick and thin. I also thank all the sponsors who have supported us as well. And my team, I am proud of my team. This is a team that I can call mine, and proud to be leading you guys. Yes, we will celebrate, and I guess we deserve it as well."

Ellyse Perry (Sydney Sixers Women Captain): "Yeah, absolutely, it's been a wonderful season for us. It has been a great season for us. The cooperation we got from everyone was really magnificent. But disappointed not to get over the line tonight. The plans didn't go our way. It was a wonderful journey. We played a great brand of cricket in the season.
Thank you for the support of all the crowds. It was great to get an opportunity to host the finals. It's fantastic to see such a large crowd for both teams of women's cricket.

Deandra Dottin | Player of the Final: "Yeah, it means a lot. It's been a long season for me. After retiring from international cricket, I play only franchise leagues now. It was the first WBBL final. I am really happy with this. I needed to stay out till the end after we lost quick wickets after a good start. So, I did what I was asked. While bowling, I tried normal stuff, and it got me rewards., It is always good to get the top batters out to put them under pressure."
Cricket Australia announces a big thank you for the retiring players Nicole Bolton and Tegan McPharlin.
Time for the post-match presentation ceremony.
Tegan McPharlin: "It's such a fairytale. Outstanding and I am proud of the group. We knew we had to fight till the end. Brown was giving us a scare and glad we held our nerves against a good side. I am just super proud. Thank my dad, mom, and all others watching. I can thank people and those will be endless, to say the least. But the Sixers are a good side and glad we held our nerves. Happy to go out on a high."
Madeline Penna: "So proud of the girls. I am happy. I spent a lot of time pre-season working with the coaches and getting my mindset. Last year sucked us, but this year was great. I am hard on myself. It was more backing myself and did that to get the results right. Definitely. TMAC is great in keeping us calm. We kept fighting and got the job done and we are smiling. The podium is ours."
Megan Schutt: "I am absolutely speechless. We were short with the runs that we scored. But we are a great bowling side, and we were confident of winning any game and defending any total. The last 24 hours were intense, and I am glad we held our nerves. We had the spirit and were glad that the people supported us. Things were tough, but we held our nerves."

What a game they played as they beat the best team in the competition, Sydney Sixers Women. While it is a joyful adieu to Tegan McPharlin, it is an agony for Nicole Bolton as both retired now after the final.
Earlier in the match, Adelaide Strikers Women won the toss and opt to bat first. The Strikers’ openers, Laura Wolvaardt and Katie Mack, gave the team a good start adding 51 runs for the first wicket. It needed Kate Peterson to break this partnership as she got rid of the classy Wolvaardt (15 off 16) in the 7th over. Soon in the next over, Mack (31 off 26) stepped onto her own stumps while attempting a backfoot punch.
Skipper Tahlia McGrath rebuilt the innings with a partnership of 44 runs alongside Deandra Dottin. Once McGrath got out in the 14th over, the scoring rate decreased as wickets crumbled at one end. But still, Adelaide Strikers finished with 147 runs on the board for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. This was because of a luck-riding half-century from Dottin, who smashed an unbeaten 52 off 37, including 6 fours and 2 sixes.
For the Sixers, Sophie Ecclestone picked a couple of wickets, while Nicole Bolton, Lauren Cheatle and Kate Peterson scalped a wicket each.
Chasing this competitive total, Adelaide Strikers bowlers were right on the spot straightaway as they destroyed Sydney Sixers, reducing them to 16/4 in the inside 6 overs. But Ellyse Perry and Nicole Bolton fought hard to bring their team back into the match with a partnership of 60 runs for the 5th wicket. Once Bolton (32 off 27) and Perry (33 off 32) got out in a span of an over, the Sixers lost their way once again as wickets kept tumbling to the scorecard pressure.
In the end, Maitlan Brown (34 off 17), with some support from Sophie Ecclestone (15 off 8), tried to sneak in towards the target and was the last woman to get out as Sydney Sixers were bundled out for 137 in the full 20 overs.
For the Strikers, Deandra Dottin and Darcie Brown picked 2 wickets, while the rest of all the bowlers- Megan Schutt, Tahlia McGrath, Amanda Jade-Wellington and Jemma Barsby scalped a wicket each and helped the side to win the WBBL title by 10 runs!

W IN THE AIR AND IS TAKEN BY WOLVAARDT! That's it and the Adelaide Strikers win the WBBL 2022. Fuller length and in the slot, Brown looks to go big and gets the height and not the distance. The catch is taken safely at long-on by Laura Wolvaardt. Brown departs as the Sixers have been bowled out for 137 in 20 overs to lose the game by 10 runs.

6 SIX! Fuller and in the slot, Brown picks it and lofts it away over deep midwicket as the ball goes flat and hard for the maximum. Great ball striking, but a bit too late in the game.
