11:34 AM IST | Akshay: PHEW!!! What a match we just witnessed. There were ebbs and flows throughout the game and it went down to the last ball and Heat come out victorious. Four consecutive wins and Brisbane Heat are in a firm position to qualify for the playoffs. They beat the Melbourne Stars by four runs to take their points tally to 13 and move to the third spot. The Stars' miserable season continues as they suffer their 10th loss of the competition.

It was a daunting task for the Stars to chase 189. They got off to a flying start, thanks to Thomas Rogers who played some outstanding strokes against the new ball. They scored 48 at the end of the powerplay. Rogers played one shot too many as he departed on a 20-ball 41 in the fifth over. Joe Clarke struggled for timing throughout his innings and fell on 31.

Campbell Kellaway, coming in at three, played some good shots but fell while trying to up the ante. Marcus Stoinis and Hilton Cartwright hit some lusty blows in the end and kept the Stars in the chase. The game went down to the wire and with 14 required from the last over, Spencer Johnson stepped up again to defend it successfully. The partnership of 80 between Stoinis (36*) and Cartwright (33*) went in vain as they fell short of the target by four runs.

Earlier, Brisbane Heat won the toss and had no hesitation to bat first. They had a shaky start to their innings as they lost two wickets inside the powerplay with 42 on the board. Skipper Usman Khawaja along with Sam Hain led the recovery work for the hosts. Khawaja looked good for his 24 before departing in the seventh over. It brought his Jimmy Peirson to the crease and he along with Hain started building partnership for Heat.

Both the batters took their time to settle in and teed off once they got their eye in. They played some brilliant strokes and shifted the momentum back towards them. Both brought up their respective fifties and didn’t allow the Stars to get back in the contest. Some power-hitting masterclass in the end helped Heat finish with a flourish. Hain and Peirson remained unbeaten on 73 and 57 respectively to help Heat post 188 on the board.
