Player Bio

Born in Harare, Zimbabwe, Hilton Cartwright is an all-rounder who plays for the Australian national cricket team.

Having risen through Western Australia’s U-17 setup, Cartwright had a breakout summer season in 2015 where he scored runs for fun and was eventually selected in the Australian senior squad. During that season, Cartwright scored 180 runs for the Matadors at an average of 45. He continued his good form during the Sheffield Shield campaign where he amassed 409 runs at an astonishing average of 68.16.

As a result of his stupendous performance, he was drafted into Australia 'A' squad to face off against the touring India 'A' side.

In November 2016, the Australian selectors decided to rope in Cartwright in the ODI side for their series against New Zealand. A useful right-arm medium-pace bowler who has the ability to play in the middle order, Cartwright didn’t get a single game in the series, but good things were about to come.

He was selected in the Australian Test squad ahead of the Boxing Day game against Pakistan in 2016. Australia wanted a seam-bowling all-rounder and Cartwright fitted that role. Eventually, he received his baggy green cap ahead of the third Test match at Sydney as he replaced Nic Maddinson in the playing XI. It was a decent debut with the bat for Cartwright who notched up a gritty 97-ball 37, but his performance with the ball was underwhelming. He struggled to bowl at tighter lines and lengths and hardly broke the 125 km/h barrier.

Despite all the criticism, he was voted the Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year in 2017.

In September 2017, Cartwright made his much-awaited ODI debut for the Aussies against India in Chennai. He failed to make an impression in the first two games of the series and was eventually dropped for the rest of the series.

Apart from Australia and Western Australia, Cartwright also played for Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League.
