- Sri Lanka (73 vs IND & 76 vs NZ) in 2023
12:43 PM IST: A commanding win for New Zealand as they have thrashed Sri Lanka by 198 runs. The Kiwis bowlers have just blown away the visitors as the batters just could not have any answer to the high quality bowling. The Kiwis go 1-0 up in this 3-match series. This is Sri Lanka's lowest score against New Zealand.

Chasing 275 on this tricky surface, the Lankans never got going as the run-out of Fernando at the top started the collapse and they never really recovered. Angelo Mathews top scored with 18. Chamika Karunaratne got 11 while Lahiru Kumara got himself to 10 at the end. The rest of the batters were in single digits as the Lankans were bowled out for 76 in 19.5 overs.

An awesome bowling performance from the New Zealand seamers. Henry Shipley was the pick of them with 5/31 in 7 overs. A couple of wickets apiece for Daryl Mitchell and Blair Tickner plus the run out. Matt Henry bowled well for 6 overs and kept it tight despite going wicketless. A thoroughly professional bowling display by the Kiwis.

Earlier in the day, New Zealand were put into bat by Dasun Shanaka and there were players who got starts and never kicked on. Finn Allen at the top scored 51. Daryl Mitchell scored 47 while Will Young scored 26. Glenn Phillips chipped in with 39 while Rachin Ravindra on his debut played a good innings of 49 runs. Ish Sodhi's 10 alongside 21 extras given by the Lankans took the score to 274 in 49.3 overs which was a competitive score and later proved to be more than enough.

Chamika Karunaratne was the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka with figures of 4/43 in 9 overs. He was ably supported by Lahiru Kumara who picked up a couple of wickets and Kasun Rajitha who also picked up a couple of wickets. A wicket for skipper Dasun Shanaka who was good with the ball and Dilshan Madushanka who was taken to the cleaners by the New Zealand batters. Wanindu Hasanga had a rare off day as he went for 67 runs and did not pick up a wicket in his 10 overs. It was a good comeback by the Lankan bowlers to keep the score down to 274. But the batters undid the good job.

So, a win by 198 runs for New Zealand as they go 1-0 up in the 3-match series. Sri Lanka now have a mountain to climb in the series and the WSL standings while New Zealand garner 10 points in the WSL as they can go top of the table there.
This is New Zealandโ€™s 50th ODI victory against Sri Lanka.
19.5 B Tickner to L Kumara
W It's in the air and Rachin Ravindra rushes in from long on and adjusts himself for a firm grab. Pushed the length up this time and angled into the left-hander. Kumara takes his usual route, looking for the hoick. He doesn't middle it and the ball skies up, off the top-edge and lands under debutant Ravindra. New Zealand kicks off the ODI series with a massive victory of 198 runs.
19.4 B Tickner to L Kumara
0 Back of a length delivery into the left hander who goes for the heave and misses once again in the same over. This is just blind slogging from Kumara.
19.3 B Tickner to L Kumara
4 FOURRR!! Length delivery outside the off stump. He offers the batter to swing hard and the tailender does so. In the act, Kumara gets the outside edge and it flies towards third man beating the sliding fielder there.
19.2 B Tickner to L Kumara
0 Drags the length back and over the fifth stump line. Kumara goes for the heave and gets whiskered past the outside edge.
19.1 B Tickner to L Kumara
6 SIXXX!! And Blair Tickner has been greeted with a maximum. On the hard length wide outside the off stump. The mid off was inside the circle and the southpaw whacks a flat blade hit over the long off region for a six.

18.6 H Shipley to D Madushanka
0 A maiden wicket over. Smears in a yorker at the middle and off stump and the batter digs out back to the bowler who collects with a single hand.
Here we go again. The bails issue is still going on. The battery has gone dead as it's not flickering at all.
18.5 H Shipley to D Madushanka
4 FOURRRR!! A low full toss at the stumps and Madushanka smacks back at the bowler this time. It hits the surface and rebounds over the head of the bowler and traverses past to meet the fence. The mid-on fielder chases it but fails to beat the outfield.
And Henry Shipley gets his fifer. His first ever One Day international fifer.
18.4 H Shipley to C Karunaratne
W WICKET! Shipley has got 5 as Chamika departs. Short of a length into the pitch, Chamika goes for the pull and gets a top edge that goes straight up in the air. The fielder gets underneath it at square leg and takes the catch. Chamika departs for 11 as the last recognized batter as the 9th one goes down for 62 in the 19th over.
