In reply to the target set by the visitors, the host started
in an opposite manner scoring 46 runs without losing any wicket in the
powerplay which laid a good foundation for them to go on and win this game. When
Scotland's openers came to chase, both the batters were handling Scotland's
innings and were also scoring runs at a brisk rate. When none of the bowlers succeeded in getting any wickets, Sodhi took charge and got Munsey (28 off 28) to take the first one. Shortly after, Sodhi gave Ollie a cheap return of the pavilion in the same manner. It was only a few seconds that Munsey and Ollie were out that Calum MacLeod (33 off 24) became the victim of Santner. Sodhi did not give the Scottish captain a chance to stay in the next over and on the score of just two runs, he uprooted his wicket with his spin.
The Scotland team's batsmen could not achieve much even after a strong start, losing 5 wickets for only 88 runs. Greaves and Leask managed Scotland's faltering effort, they scored 29 runs for the sixth wicket, but the New Zealand bowlers did not give any batters enough time to stay in the game. Greaves made 31 off 22 balls and he lost his wicket after being caught in Sodhi's googly. Mark Watt (17* off 12) played a quick-fired unbeaten knock. The Scottish players failed with both bat and ball and eventually suffered a 68-run defeat.
However, from the bowling side, today was a good day for the Kiwis, first, they put a big target of 225 on the board while batting and when their bowlers' turn came, they also showed their best performance. Then their bowlers uprooted the opponent’s wickets with their deadly bowling attack. Ish Sodhi was an effective and impactful bowler throughout the innings. He was the pick of the bowlers for New Zealand he took 4 wickets and gave away 28 runs in his 4 overs. Mitchell Santner also took a couple of wickets. Lockie Ferguson also managed to take a wicket. This is New Zealand's fourth straight victory in T20 Internationals after winning the game by 68 runs.
