Player Bio

An outstanding striker of the white-ball, Finn Allen is hailed as a rising star for the New Zealand cricket team. Known for his aggressive gameplay, he likes to set up the game early by providing big starts at the top of the order.

Allen started his professional career playing for Auckland’s U17 team at the age of 14 and soon made it into the U19 side. Impressive domestic performances saw him included in New Zealand’s squad for the 2016 ICC U19 World Cup and also went on to play the next U19 World Cup, two years later. Allen made headlines in the 2018 U19 World Cup when he smashed a brilliant ton against the Men in Maroon and finished as the leading run-scorer for the Blackcaps in the tournament.

Allen’s inspirational journey started on the back of his sensational performance in the 2020-21 Super Smash Tournament. With not getting enough chances in the domestic circuit to represent the Blackcaps in an international match, Allen has shown everyone what he is capable of. He amassed 512 runs in 11 matches making him the leading run-getter of the tournament helping the Firebirds clinch the title. A day after the final, he got his maiden callup in the senior squad as a standby player.

The New Zealand opener made his international debut against Bangladesh in the second T20I match on March 28th, 2021. While he returned for a golden duck on his debut, he showed his class in the 3rd T20I, scoring 29-ball 71. The 21-year old opened the batting with Martin Guptill and played one of the most blistering and fearless knocks in the shortest format of the game.

With Josh Phillipe opting out of the 2021 edition of the IPL, the youngster got his chance to showcase his skills alongside the likes of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. Like ABD, Allen can also don the big gloves occasionally which will give him extra certainty on being selected in the playing XI.
