A couple of delicious games to kick things off in the ICC T20 World Cup in 2022. While Namibia was upsetting Sri Lanka in the tournament opener, the Netherlands grabbed two points from the second match. More awaits tomorrow.

For now, AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Anirudh Modi, who, alongside our scorer/analyst Paras Yadav, brought you all the live action of this mouth-watering fixture.
Scott Edwards | Netherlands Captain: "Always a little bit nervy at the end. I think we wanted to make the most of the powerplay. They struggled during the powerplay and lost wickets. They failed to score runs later. Hence we thought of making full use of the field restrictions. But we did lose a few wickets at the wrong time. It went down to the wire. It was just about being busy, playing low risk, taking it deep, and hoping to get away in the second last over; it didn't happen that way, but we got over the line. All of the guys did their jobs well. I'm still processing it, but the main thing is relief; starting the tournament with a win is the most important thing.
CP Rizwan | UAE Captain: "It is definitely heart-breaking, we gave our all. If we held onto the chances the result would have been different. It was not easy to chase here, even in the last match Sri Lanka collapsed and that's what I told the team, to keep their nerves and keep fighting until the last bowl. It was tricky, we had to ensure that we get wickets but eventually 6 runs in the over and going into the last over, we are happy with the performance."
Bas de Leede | Player of the Match: "I know the batters were going to come after me and I plan to be one step ahead, and I'm happy to have pulled it off. In the end it got a lot closer than what we were expecting and I'm happy we pulled it back! For now, today I say death bowler but hopefully in the future, a batter as well."
5:00 PM IST | Finally, Netherlands breathe a sigh of relief as they chase down this low total in a cliffhanger to win the match by 3 wickets.

Batting first, UAE were over-cautious and scored just 31 runs in the powerplay. Roelof van der Merwe ended Chirag Suri’s (12 off 20) painstaking stay at the crease in the 7th over. While Suri’s opening partner, Muhammad Waseem, too struggled to time the ball, he did score a 47-ball 41.

Vriitya Aravind (18 off 21) and Kashif Daud (15 off 14) were the next ones to get into the double figures. Losing 7 wickets in the last five overs didn’t allow the team to finish on a high as they were restricted to 111/8 in their 20 overs.

Bas de Leede (3/19) was the pick of the bowlers. While Fred Klaassen scalped a couple of wickets, giving away just 13 runs in his quota, Roelof van der Merwe and Tim Pringle picked a wicket each.

In what looked like an easy chase, the Dutch side didn’t get off to a pleasing start, as they lost Vikramjit Singh, who fell prey to Basil Hameed in the second over. But a partnership of 27 runs for the second wicket put things back in balance for Netherlands.

In the final over the powerplay, good-looking Max O'Dowd (23 off 18) was taken care of by Junaid Siddique, who then pegged the batting side with a double-wicket over (14th over). The Orange Army lost wickets at the wrong time, as they were reduced to 76/6 after 13.3 overs, who were looking comfortable during the powerplay.

It was Scott Edwards and Tim Pringle (15 off 16) who kept their cool to stitch a partnership of 27 runs for the seventh wicket to bring the calmness back to the Dutch dressing room. The latter was cleaned up in the 19th over, and the target reached run-a-ball in the final over as Netherlands needed 6 off the last six balls. Edwards
(16* off 19) and Logan van Beek (4* off 4) manoeuvred the field well as they stole the game with a ball in hand.

For UAE, Junaid Siddique was the best bowler, scalping 3/24, while Basil Hameed, Aayan Afzal Khan, Zahoor Khan, and Karthik Meiyappan picked a wicket each.

After witnessing an upset in the very first match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, the eyes were on Netherlands and United Arab Emirates (UAE). And it didn’t disappoint at all. Though for the majority of the match, Netherlands were dominating, UAE came back and gave it their all during the second half of the match, but they couldn't held their nerves to stop the Dutch.

Stay tuned for the presentations!

1 AND NETHERLANDS HAVE CROSSED THE FINISH LINE! They take the victory in a thriller of an encounter! Good length delivery, on the off stump, pushes it to covers to sneak in a quick single to clinch VICTORY!
A lot of discussions going around between the bowler and the skipper.
The scores are level despite the direct hit from deep mid-wicket.

2 2 RUNS! SCORES ARE LEVEL! Back of a length delivery, on the stumps, Edwards pulls it to deep square leg and the batters have run well to complete a couple!

1 Full length delivery, on the off stump, driven to covers and an excellent effort in the field! The batters scamper through for a single but a direct hit and he was gone!
Misfiled! Not what UAE wanted!
19.1 Z Farid to Beek
1 Full length delivery, on the off stump, Beek plays it past the bowler for a single. A MISFIELD AND A GIFT TO THE DUTCH!
Six runs from six balls. What a start for the World Cup! Two different games altogether! Can Netherlands win this, or UAE bowl well to defend the total?
