So that's the end of the 1st Test Match between West Indies and South Africa that ended in a DRAW. We have the 2nd & Final Test coming up in a few days time.

For now, this is Pritam Dey signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Saptak Sanyal who, along with scorer/analysts Ashok Dayma brought all the actions of this final day of the Test Match. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world. Good Bye and Good Night 👋🏻
Kraigg Brathwaite (West Indies Captain) : "Well we are happy with the result of this test match. The intent we had as a batting group today was really promising. I mean we believed to remain positive with the bat today and not think much about anything else.

The way Alick batted today showed the intent we wanted with the bat. Well I mean, I always want to improve for my team. Sometimes you need to accelerate according to the situation of the game and I am trying to learn every game.

Well as a batting group, we played really well. With an experienced batting unit, the way they played was really good. Especially Alick, his planning was really top notch and that's why he got so much runs today.

Well for the bowlers, tomorrow its travel day for us to Guyana. Once we reach there we will see how our bowlers are because we have a 15-Men Squad."
Temba Bavuma(South Africa Captain): "I think we got better of the competitive cricket. Ya we went with an extra batter for some extra cushion. I think we could have been more ruthless. Stubbs batted excellently in the second innings. The guy has made his Test debut and having him is good.

We tried our best with the ball too. I think the weather took much time away from us. But Keshav and KG were brilliant. Yes we didn't bowl Ngidi and Wiaan. Keshav and KG were fine with the new ball. Wiaan bowled with good intensity. Aiden was good with the ball throughout this match. He bowled a few crucial overs."
Keshav Maharaj (Player of the Match): "I think whichever format I play for my country, I always try to keep it simple and go with the process. Yeah I try to read the conditions whenever I play away from my home. I always try to adjust with the seam of the ball as well and speak to my skipper adjusting the fields.

Well with him (Athanaze) I was trying to use the rough but it wasn't working out for me. Obviously he batted brilliantly and credit goes to him."
Player of the Match: Keshav Maharaj
03:21 IST & 17:51 Local Time| The First Test Match between South Africa and West Indies has ended in a DRAW at the Queen’s Park Oval.

A test match which was interrupted by rain quite a bit but we still could see a close finish as we had a possibility of a result in the final session on Day 5.

South Africa Skipper, Temba Bavuma won the toss and elected to have a bat. We could have only 15 overs of Play in Day 1 as the rest of the day was spoiled by the heavy rain at the Queen’s Park Oval. South Africa were 45/1 having lost Aiden Markram for 9.

On Day 2, South Africa batted the entire day and added a run less than 300 by losing 7 wickets. Skipper, Temba Bavuma (86 off 182) was the top scorer in the Innings while Tony de Zorzi (86 off 182) batted brilliantly too in the first Innings. Jomel Warrican picked up a couple of wickets late in the day as he finished of with figures off 4/69 in the Innings.

Wiaan Mulder (41* off 85) remained unbeaten for South Africa in the 1st Innings who got bowled out for 357/10 early on in Day 3. West Indies walked out to bat, the top three batters got themselves into a good start but could not covert it into a big score. Rain interrupted the play for a while in the afternoon but we had around 70 overs of play in that day.

West Indies ended with 145/4 at the end of day 3 and the test match was looking towards a Draw because of the weather conditions which was predicted for Day 4 and 5.

In Day 4, South Africa bowled brilliantly as they bowled out West Indies for 233. Keshav Maharaj was the pick of the bowlers with figures off 4/76 from 40 overs he bowled. Keacy Carty (42 off 81) was the top scorer with the bat for the Windies while the handy knock from Jomel Warrican (35* off 32) helped the home side decrease the lead margin for the South Africans to something around 124.

South Africa batted for 5 overs in Day 4 under the lights. The opening pair of Aiden Markram and Tony de Zorzi batted positively as they ended up with 30/0 at Stumps on Day 4 with the lead of 154 runs.

On Day 5, in bright and sunny morning from the Queen’s Park Oval. South Africa walked out to bat with a clear mindset of playing attacking cricket. The visitors scored 143 runs in 24 overs losing just 3 wickets. The knock of Tristian Stubbs (68 off 50) really helped the Proteas setup a target of 298 for the Windies who had to bat a minimum of 2 sessions in the final day of the test match.

West Indies Skipper, Kraigg Brathwaite threw away his wicket in the third ball of the 4th Innings. Alick Athanaze (92 off 116) was the standout performer for the Windies in this Innings as he batted along with Kavem Hodge (29 off 55) and Jason Holder (31* off 76) by adding 60+ partnerships together.

South Africa could not pick up the 10 wickets in the 4th Innings as both the teams share the points as the Test Match ended in a DRAW. We have the 2nd and Final Test Match of the Series coming up on 15th August, 2024 all the way from the Providence Stadium, Guyana.
