Player Bio

A wicketkeeper-batsman from Trinidad and Tobago, Joshua Da Silva, has been a West Indies regular since his Test debut against New Zealand in December 2020. He is a byproduct of the Kieron Pollard scholarship programme, who emerged through the ranks after playing club cricket in the United Kingdom as a young player.

Born in Port in Spain, the stumper is of Portuguese descent, with his mother from Madeira, while his father is a Trinidadian. As a teenager, Da Silva played both cricket and football at St. Mary's College. However, he chose the former sport at an age of 16 years, when his prowess was cited by his TNT teammate - Darren Bravo.

The Port in Spain born made his first-class debut for Trinidad and Tobago in the 2018-19 season. The following year, he was named in the West Indies Emerging Team for the 2019-20 Super50 tournament, where the wicket-keeper batsman made his List-A debut. Da Silva scored a hundred in the 50-over domestic competition and there was no looking for him since then.

In June 2020, Da Silva was named as one of eleven reserve players in the West Indies' Test squad and scored 133* and 56* in the intra-squad warm-up game, to prove his finesse. A few months later, he made his Test debut against New Zealand at Wellington. This made him the first Caribbean-born white player to play Test cricket for the West Indies since Geoff Greenidge.
