Earlier in the match, Washington Freedom had won the toss and opted to field. MI New York lost two wickets for 28 runs after 5 overs. 

Ruben Clinton was looking threatening before Glenn Maxwell knocked him over for 28. Nicholas Pooran top-scored with a knock of 44 off 30. 

Rashid Khan played a cameo towards the end, scoring 31 off 15 to take the team's total over 150.

Saurabh Netravalkar and Justin Dill picked up three wickets apiece while Maxwell, Marco Jansen and Lockie Ferguson all picked up one wicket each. 

In reply, Washington lost Travis Head for just one run but Steve Smith found the middle of his bat and smashed the bowlers all over the park. 

The Washington skipper hit four boundaries and three maximums en route to his knock of 46 off 28. 

Andries Gous remained unbeaten on 5 off 11 before a couple of lightning strikes forced the officials to take the players off the field. 

After a wait of about 30 minutes, rain arrived and with the forecast not in favour of a resumption, the match was called off.
