9:23 PM IST, 5:23 PM Local Time: That's it. Surrey get back to winning ways in the T20 Blast 2024. They beat the Essex Eagles by 13 runs here in Chelmsford. They did a fine job to get to a formidable total before their bowlers stepped up and defended it successfully. All smiles in the Surrey camp as they defeat the hosts convincingly.

Chasing 177 was always going to be a daunting task for Essex. Adam Rossington gave them a solid start. His opening partner Dean Elgar fell cheaply on nine but Michael-Kyle Pepper supported him nicely.

The Eagles were going nicely before Cameron Steel dismissed Pepper on 27. Charlie Allison (2), Paul Walter (4) and Matthew Critchley (7) fell on single-digit scores. Rossington kept going strong from the other end and brought up his fifty.

Rossington and Luc Benkenstein kept Essex in the hunt. The required run rate crept above 10. Rossington scored 78 off 49 balls before holing out in the deep in the 18th over. Benkenstein got cleaned up on 27. It was too much to do for the lower-order batters as Essex finished their innings on 176/8 to lose the game by 13 runs.

Skipper Chris Jordan was the pick of the bowlers for Surrey. He picked up three wickets and conceded 34 runs in his four overs. Jordan Clark and Cameron Steel picked up two scalps each and Sam Curran also grabbed a wicket as it helped them defend the total successfully.

Earlier, Surrey were asked to bat first and they got off to a solid start, courtesy Will Jacks. He played some fantastic shots while opening the batting, despite lacking support from the other end. Surrey kept losing wickets at regular intervals but Jacks held the innings nicely from one end.

He scored 86 off 46 balls before getting dismissed in the 16th over. Jordan Clark was the next top-scorer for Surrey with 23 as they ended their innings on 189/9. Simon Harmer grabbed three wickets for Essex but was on the expensive side as he conceded 44 runs in his four overs. Matthew Critchley and Paul Walter picked up two scalps each.

The Essex's batters then failed to get going in the chase. Adam Rossington tried hard but it wasn't enough as they failed to get across the line and lost the fixture by 13 runs.
