Milestone
That is the coverage of our tournament opener for LPL. Kandy Falcons won the first game. We will be back with a double header tomorrow (July 2). For now, this is me AkshayaKrishna Polya signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Hiren Kumar and Ajay Pal Singh, who, alongside our scorer/analyst Paras Yadav, brought you all the live action of this fixture. We will meet again. Until then, its cheers!
Wanindu Hasaranga (Kandy Falcons Captain): "It was a good win for us. Credit to Dinesh Chandimal. Dasun is one of the best finishers in the country and it was good to see him bat like that. The wicket was good to bowl in the first 6 overs but then it was good to bat. Good to see the young players perform in this tournament."
Mohammad Nabi (Dambulla Sixers Captain): "It was a good pitch. Mark Chapman played a really good knock. Coming to Pallekele, everyone knows about the pitch and that it helps the batting. The 150-run partnership was a good comeback. We missed out on a few shots on this wicket. We will perform better in the next game. Happy to be involved in this tournament at the last moment. Nice to be playing in LPL."
Dasun Shanaka (Player of the match): "Really happy with my contribution with the ball. Coming into this game, the captain and coach had a chat with me and it was clear. I have made some changes in my batting and it was good to contribute. Mark Chapman and Wickramasinghe batted very well for them. It is pleasing to see a high scoring game and hope this continues for the upcoming games as well. But it is a sad day for me, my friend passed away."
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: DASUN SHANAKA
10:59 PM IST and Local Time: We are ready with the post-match ceremony!

22:47 IST and Local Time: ALL OVER! Kandy Falcons win by 6 wickets and kick start their campaign with a comprehensive victory against the Dambulla Sixers. It was all about Dasun Shanaka when we talk about Kandy. He was outstanding with both bat and ball tonight.

Opting to field first, the Kandy Falcons bowlers were outstanding with the new ball and picked up 4 wickets inside the powerplay. They were then expensive in the middle and death overs and failed to capitalize on the start which their bowlers gave them.

Dasun Shanaka
and Mohammad Hasnain were the only wicket takers for them and picked up 3 and 1 wickets respectively.

With the bat, Dambulla Sixers did an excellent recovery after losing early wickets and also had the momentum with the strong finish in the end. Mark Chapman and Chamindu Wickramasinghe were excellent in the middle and death and remained unbeaten on 91* and 62* runs respectively and helped their side get close to the 180-mark.

Coming to the chase, Dambulla started brilliantly with the new ball and picked up a couple of early wickets but were pretty ordinary post the powerplay and leaked too many runs.

For Kandy, Dinesh Chandimal was brilliant at the top of the order and played a brilliant knock of 65 runs off just 40 balls. In the end, Angelo Mathews and Dasun Shanka sealed the game and remained unbeaten on 37* and 46* respectively. So, Kandy Falcons start the LPL season 5 with a victory.

Stay around for the presentations coming your way.
17.2 D Madushanka to D Shanaka
6 SIXXXX!!! A fitting end to the curtain raiser! Dasun Shanaka with the ball and now with the bat! It is his night on the field, and there is no one coming in his merry way! Short and outside the off stump. Stands tall and pummels it high and handsome in the leg side. Clubs this pull stroke way over deep backward square leg for a maximum to end the contest in favour of Kandy Falcons! The defending champions open their account with a dominating 6 wicket win!
17.1 D Madushanka to D Shanaka
0 Around the wicket. Short and outside off. Shanaka swings and misses on the top edge.
Woah! 44 runs from the power blast. Just 3 required now. Will Shanaka finish it off in style?

4 FOURRRR!!! Boundary to end the over and the power blast! 21 runs off the over. Back of a length angled back into the batter. Mathews gets inside its line, lifts his front leg and pulls it over short fine leg for a cheeky four.
16.5 N Thushara to D Shanaka
1 Aerial but well away from Fizz! Too much to ask for from the fielder! Short on the body of the batter. Hurries Shanaka on the pull. Loses the bottom hand and a top edge behind square in the leg side. In the air and falls away from the dive of Mustafizur who runs to his left from short fine leg. A single added to the scoreline!
Too easy for Shanaka.
16.4 N Thushara to D Shanaka
4 FOURRRR!!! Shanaka is playing with the field to perfection! He never looked to overhit! Length ball on the leg stump. Angled into the batter who makes room by shuffling down the leg side. Gets forward and lifts it over extra cover. A classy stuff to time the inside out really well.
16.4 N Thushara to D Shanaka
WD WIDE! High full toss sprayed down the leg side. Shanaka swings and misses. Good keeping behind the stumps as Perera collects it with a dive. Called as a wide! Height was below the waist!
Shanaka is now toying with the bowlers. He is hitting at his will at the moment.
