That's it. Thank you for joining us! On behalf of my co-commentators Akshay-Akshaya, and scorers Zeeshan-Bishal, I, Sidharth, say goodbye. Cheers!
Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals Skipper and Player of the Match): "It was great fun to spend time in the middle. Happy to get off to a winning start. This time I've been given different kind of role with a slightly different combination. (Kumar) Sangakkara has given me some tips. I feel I need to spend more time and assess conditions. Playing international cricket has helped me. It's all about understanding your strengths and weaknesses. My strength is timing, and I focus on it. I think Sandeep Sharma deserves this trophy. He was tremendous in his 3 overs. He displayed great body language."

7:45 PM IST, Local Time: Time for the post-match presentation.
Ravichandran Ashwin (Rajasthan Royals): “The wicket was of two halves. When we batted, it looked like the ball stuck a bit on the surface. After the eighth over mark, we felt the wicket got better. I thought we were 10 runs short. It was a good pitch. It gets better as the game progresses and that’s the nature of it here.

I went for 12 for the first ball I bowled. Look, I bowl in the different phases. The length can be different but it required different mindsets. I’m in a very good mental space and I’m feeling fresh. Look I went for 15 in the first over, that was in the powerplay. The moment that phase is over, I put it behind. My next three overs went for 20 and picked up a wicket.

It’s important to assess what speeds I have to bowl. In comes with a lot of reputations. But it’s about seeing whom I’m bowling to. I didn’t visualise bowling to Pooran and Hooda but as the game progressed, I adapted. The game in IPL is built in perception.

The way Sandy has bowled so far, he should be in the top five batters. He had a shoulder surgery and with the way he has bowled, it shows the character. In a T20 game, a bowler with a fight is more important than a bowler with skills.

There are two bouncers to be used. The bowlers have made a cautious effort to use it. I feel the bowlers are going to use it and get better as the tournament progresses.”
KL Rahul (Lucknow Super Giants Skipper): "I don't think the target was above par. We bowled well in patches but failed to contain the run-scoring. Mohsin was our powerplay bowler last year. We missed him last year and it was nice to see him back. Naveen has been crucial for us. He swung the ball upfront and it was nice to see him do the job. We will try to fix the mistakes heading into the next game.

When we are three for nothing, it was good to get us close. It’s still the first game of the season. We are bound to make mistake not only the first game but throughout this season. But we have to stay in the contest and try our best. We will see how we can get stronger.

While chasing 200, we have to start well. But losing wickets upfront put us under pressure.

Langer has brought a lot of calmness into the group. I just stole a line from him. He keeps saying try to win games of cricket. We have seen him lead Australia to T20 World Cup victories and Ashes victories and it is nice to see him come. When you get runs, it always feels good. But it’s important for us to finish on the winning side.

Spending time in the middle was great. Missing last season was really painful. I’m trying to leave it behind and try and win the IPL title for this group.”
19:24 IST and Local Time | That's it. Rajasthan Royals win by 20 runs. Full marks to Sandeep Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin for displaying their experience in the death overs. They didn't allow KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran both to open their arms, and that proved to be a big factor in the home team opening its account in IPL 2024.

Chasing a target of 194, Lucknow Super Giants were off to a terrible start as they lost three of their four top-order batters - Quinton de Kock, Devdutt Padikkal and Ayush Badoni - inside the mandatory PowerPlay. Lucknow Super Giants managed a stupendous recovery with their captain and vice-captain - Rahul and Pooran - stepping up to the plate. The two players punished a majority of loose deliveries and kept the visitors in the hunt.

Lucknow Super Giants required 49 from the last 24 balls, with Rahul and Pooran well set. Sandeep Sharma, who was reserved specifically for the final overs, struck and brought Rajasthan Royals back into the contest. Sandeep got the better of Rahul, and then it was too much to do for Pooran, who remained unbeaten on 64. Sandeep, who ended with 1 for 22 in three overs, was splendid when needed.

After opting to bat first, Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal got starts but both fell in quick succession. Riyan Parag, RR's new No. 4, batted well and scored 43. LSG bowlers couldn’t keep it tight, especially when the Sanju Samson-Parag partnership was on. Samson continued the momentum gathered before Parag’s dismissal and guided his team to a mammoth 193/4 in their full quota of 20 overs. Samson remained unbeaten on 82 while Dhruv Jurel's played a cameo. For Lucknow Super Giants, Naveen-ul-Haq bagged 2 scalps. RR bowlers then showed maturity and guided their team over the line.
