Match Details
Under the lights in the gargantuan arena, the ball swung viciously and Haryana pacers made the most of it, with deadly opening spells from Anshul Kamboj (2/34 off 9) and Sumit Kumar (3/34 off 6), breaking the proverbial camel’s back. Sumit picked up all three wickets to fall in this phase, including that of the talismanic Rajasthan skipper Deepak Hooda, who hit a match-winning daddy hundred in the semi-final, for a golden duck, with the latter’s team reduced to 12/3 in 6 overs.
But after that, Abhijeet Tomar (106 off 129), and Karan Lamba stitched together a delectable partnership that brought the Rajasthan side back into the game, even as the conditions eased up. But Rahul Tewatia bowled Lamba by bringing all his experience to the occasion and the game seemed to be slipping away from Rajasthan again.
Thereafter, Kunal Singh Rathore (79 off 65), the keeper, joined Tomar in the middle and completely changed the complexion of the game with his free-flowing hitting putting them in pole position. Tomar, who had survived the initial terror, also opened up to bring his class to the fore as the two seemed to be cantering home. But Harshal Patel (3/47 off 9), got him out thanks to a great catch by the same Sumit, who was named both the man of the match and series, and thereafter the cat was set firmly amongst the pigeons, with even the best efforts of Rathore not proving enough as wickets kept on falling in regular intervals with the required rate climbing and the bowlers turning the screw. In the end, Rajasthan were bowled out for 257, with their unbeaten run ending and Haryana crowned the champions without dropping a single game.
Earlier, Haryana also began in a jittery fashion with the loss of early wickets and the going proving tough before patient knocks from opener Ankit Kumar (88 off 91) and skipper Menaria (70 off 96), putting them back in contention. Kumar timed the ball well while Menaria took his time to settle in.
However they reached 280 odd thanks to the fine and aggressive hitting of Kumar, as well as Nishant Sindhu and Rahul Tewatia. Their runs at the fag end proved crucial in the denouement. Aniket Choudhary took four wickets for Rajasthan but it wasn't enough to stop them from reaching a competitive total that they defended with elan.
