Milestone
That's it from our coverage of this game. We hope you enjoyed the Test match. Both teams will head off to Hagley Oval in Christchurch for the second Test on March 8th. Do join us for that Test and keep hooked to our network for all other cricketing actions across the globe and across formats.

For now, this is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my co-commentator AkshayaKrishna Polya alongside scorer/analyst Bishal Mandal. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Goodbye and CHEERS!
Nathan Lyon became the 10th spinner to take a 10-wicket haul in New Zealand. His figures of 35.1-9-108-10 is the best ever for a spinner on New Zealand soil.
Pat Cummins (Australia Captain): "Yeah, amazing feeling to win a Test match. We had our moments. A really good game overall and never felt too far in front on that wicket.

A little bit surprised with the spin, first of all seeing how green it was. It was really bouncy and had some pace as well. As much bounce as any wicket I have seen for some time.

Green was amazing. He was really the difference in the end. Thought the way he went about it, that intent, putting pressure back on the bowlers.

Lyon, I mean, he is simply brilliant. Time and time again, he comes up with such a performance. Pretty quick turnaround for the second game. We will enjoy this win but pretty chilled as a team.

Good crowd. Plenty of Aussie t-shirts were on."
Tim Southee (New Zealand Captain): "Yeah, look, there is room for plenty of improvements going forward into the second Test.

We didn't think it would turn as much as it did.

Glenn Phillips and Matt Henry have had a good few months both with the bat and ball. Phillips has been brilliant for us. Glenn is still new to Test cricket, and he's doing a great job.

Always nice to play in front of good crowds, and has been as good as I remember at the Basin Reserve."
Cameron Green (POTM): "Yeah, it's always a good feeling to win a Test match for Australia.

It was a very good partnership with Lyon and Hazlewood. It's always good to be batting with those experienced players. Lyon and Hazlewood have been involved in such partnerships early on.

It's not an easy wicket to bat on. Just played my natural game. Looking forward to the next one."
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: Cameron Green
5:28 AM IST, 12:58 PM Local Time: That's it. The Test match is over within the morning session of Day 4 as Australia completes a comprehensive 172 run win over New Zealand at Wellington to take a 1-0 lead in the 2-match Test series. Australia were the better side throughout. New Zealand looked good in patches, but the Aussies showed why they are the reigning World Test Champions. With this win, Australia also retain the Trans-Tasman trophy.

Let's recap you how the Test match panned out through the course of the 3 and a bit days. Australia put into bat first posted 383 on a difficult track thanks to a majestic ton from Cameron Green who scored an unbeaten 174 off 275 balls. Mitchell Marsh scored 40 while there were 30s from the openers Khawaja and Smith. Josh Hazlewood played a crucial hand scoring 22 runs as the duo shared a crucial 116 run stand for the last wicket and changed the game there. Matt Henry was the pick of the bowlers for New Zealand with a five wicket haul while William O'Rourke and Scott Kuggeleijn got a couple of wickets apiece.

In reply, New Zealand floundered in the first innings and were bowled out for 179 with Glenn Phillips showing resistance with his 71 while Matt Henry and Tom Blundell got 42 and 33 respectively. Nathan Lyon was the star for Australia once again with 4 wickets to his name for 43 runs in 8.1 overs. A couple of wickets for Hazlewood while Starc, Cummins and Marsh got a wicket apiece.

With a 204 run first innings lead, Australia decided to bat again and collapsed a little bit. Night watchman Nathan Lyon top scored with 41 while Cameron Green scored 34, Travis Head scored 29 and Usman Khawaja 28 as Australia were bowled out for 164. Glenn Phillips was the star for New Zealand with a five wicket haul as he picked up 5/45 in 16 overs. Skipper Tim Southee picked up two wickets while Matt Henry picked up three wickets to end with 8 in the match. That meant New Zealand had to chase 369 for the win.

Chasing a target of 369 for the win, The Blackcaps had no answer to the guile of Nathan Lyon. They lost wickets at regular intervals with only Rachin Ravindra showing some resistance scoring 59 off 105 balls. Daryl Mitchell was the last man out as he fought out there for his 38 off 130 balls. Some cameos from Scott Kuggeleijn and Matt Henry provided entertainment but the Kiwis were well short in the end as they were bowled out for 169 in 64.4 overs.

Nathan Lyon was the star for Australia getting 10 wickets in the match for the fifth time in his career. He finished with figures of 6/65 in 27 overs. A couple of wickets for Josh Hazlewood who finished off the match with the wicket of Mitchell. A wicket apiece for Travis Head and Cameron Green while Starc and Cummins remained wicketless. New Zealand were good in patches, but Australia way too good in the end.

So, Australia wins by 172 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the 2-match Test series. Stay tuned for the presentations.
Hazlewood finishes the game in style. He gets his second and the Test match is over. Australia win this game by 172 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
64.4 J Hazlewood to D Mitchell
W WICKETTTT!!! Hazlewood accepts an easy caught and bowled opportunity and that's it from the Basin Reserve! Australia thrash their neighbours by 172 runs and go 1-0 up in the 2-match series! Short ball angling into the batter at the line of the stumps. Mitchell was cramped for room despite him clearing his front leg for a pull. He is late on the stroke and gets a top edge that balloons in the silly point region. He knew it straightaway. Hoff calls for it, runs forward and completes a simple catch. The Aussies are back on track after a shock defeat to West Indies at the Gabba a few weeks ago.
64.3 J Hazlewood to D Mitchell
0 Short around the right shoulder of the batter, 135 kmph, Mitchell gets on its top and pulls it to deep square leg. Doesn't run!
64.2 J Hazlewood to D Mitchell
0 Back of a length at the off-stump. Punched off the back foot to extra cover.
64.1 J Hazlewood to D Mitchell
0 Over the wicket. Good length delivery, outside off, 138.4 kmph, Mitchell steers it to deep backward point. Mitchell wants two straightaway and,  after reaching halfway mark, the pair realise that there can't be the second run and abort from the mission.
