Player Bio

The son of former New Zealand rugby union coach, John Mitchell, Daryl Mitchell is an allrounder who bowls gentle medium pace, but it is his hitting ability that has attracted the minds of several people back in New Zealand.

Mitchell made his first class debut for Northern Districts back in the 2011 domestic season, and since then has performed consistently for his side with both bat and the ball in hand.

The right-handed batsman was an injury replacement in the New Zealand Test squad in place of Colin de Grandhomme back in 2019. In his debut Test match against England, Mitchell scored his maiden half-century, slamming 73 with impeccable control over his shot selection on a sluggish track at Hamilton.

In 2020, Mitchell moved from Northern Districts to Canterbury and in the same season, the all rounder bagged his maiden five-wicket haul in first class cricket, scalping 5 for 44 against Otago.

Pakistan toured New Zealand for a Test series in 2021, and Mitchell grabbed all the headlines in the second Test match of the series, scoring an unbeaten 102 with great maturity and composure.

The allrounder’s great start to 2021 continued in the subsequent ODI series against Bangladesh. In the third ODI of the tour, he slammed his first century in ODI cricket and announced his arrival in the ODI format in some style.

Over the years, New Zealand have produced great fast bowling all rounders, and Daryl Mitchell could soon be included in that list. Not only his batting abilities, but the way he remains calm while bowling under pressure situations is commendable and New Zealand are blessed to have such a great asset under their kitty.

The Canterbury cricketer is a complete package. Due to his all-round ability, Rajasthan Royals signed him up for the 2022 Indian Premier League for INR 75 Lakhs in the mega-auction 2021, held in Bangalore.

The Hamilton-born batter won the 'ICC Spirit of Cricket Award' in 2021 when he refused to take a single after colliding with Adil Rashid. The New Zealand all-rounder was the 'Player of the Match' in the semi-final of the 2021 T20 World Cup as he smashed an unbridled 72 runs off 47 balls to take his team over the line against England.

After being picked by RR in the 2022 mega auction, the 30-year-old all-rounder would be hoping to make an impact and gain some valuable experience leading up to the 2022 T20 World Cup.
