So that marks the end of our coverage from the 4th match of the WBBL 2023 between Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Stars where the defending champions defeated their opponent by a huge margin of 148 runs to start their journey of the title defence.

For now, this is Saptak Sanyal taking your leave on the behalf of my co-commentator Deepak Prakash and our scorer/analyst Chandan Kumar Singh. Don't go anywhere, just switch the tabs to follow our live ball-by-ball coverage of the ongoing World Cup double header!
Tahlia McGrath (Adelaide Strikers Women Captain & Player of the Match): "Yeah, I'm a little bit lost for words as well. We started unreal with the bat with Katie and Laura and then with the ball as well with Anesu and Schutt. So very happy.

Yeah, the big match is a really fun time of year. We love playing for the Strikers, we love kicking off our season at home and the match has been really simple, it's just enjoy the moment, keep it simple, enjoy our cricket, and see where it takes us. So, perfect start but it's a long tournament, it's a really tough tournament so we're going to have to be at our best for the next six weeks.

No, I was going to bowl as well. I thought it would have been nice to bat on under light but everyone's telling me it was an ideal toss to lose.

We head to Melbourne tomorrow, and I think we've got a ridiculous amount of games in the next week. So it's about the old cliche of not looking too far ahead, but we've got to park this move on and then look at the Renegades next."

15:59 IST and 20:59 Local Time | Adelaide Strikers, the defending champions started their journey by defeating the Melbourne Stars by 148 runs by bundling them out at just 29. This is the lowest total ever in the WBBL history!

After getting a target of 178, the Stars openers, Sophia Dunkley and Meg Lanning were uncomfortable since the start. Megan Schutt, the experienced fast bowler removed Lanning for just 1 when she tried to whip a delivery over deep square leg. After that, the leg spinner Anesu Mushangwe took a couple of wickets in her second over as she removed Sophia Dunkley and Alice Capsey. Experienced Annabel Sutherland also departed scoring just 1 by Schutt. After the powerplay, Stars were 14 for 4.

Amanda-Jade Wellington came to bowl the first over after the powerplay and in her very first ball she scalped the wicket of Maia Bouchier who departed scoring a golden duck. Then Wellington took couple of wickets more in the match and the skipper Tahlia McGrath came to bowl and removed two tail-enders to rattle their opposition with 29 runs on the board.

For Adelaide Strikers, Megan Schutt was the star of the bowling as she took three wickets for just 3 runs. Amanda-Jade Wellington also took 3 wickets giving just 4 runs. Rest of the four wickets were shared between Anesu Mushangwe and Tahlia McGrath.

In the end, it was an exhibition of needless cricket shots by the Melbourne Stars batters which helped Adelaide Strikers to register a comfortable win over them who boarded 177 batting earlier in the first innings, thanks to a blistering 86 by Katie Mack and a good 47 by Laura Wolvaardt. Tahlia McGrath stayed not out on 34 by facing just 19 deliveries to help her team go past 175.
Lowest score ever in an innings in the WBBL history-

29- Melbourne Stars vs Adelaide Strikers, 2023
66- Brisbane Heat vs Melbourne Renegades, 2017
66- Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Sixers, 2017

That's the game!!!! Sophie Day gets thin edge back to Patterson who takes a regulation catch. Melbourne Stars got all out with just 29 runs on the board and Adelaide Strikers starts their WBBL journey with a comprehensive win this season.
9.3 T McGrath to S Day
W A loud appeal and up goes the finger! Horrible batting performance by the Stars and a humiliating defeat for them. Melbourne Stars Women are bundled out for 29 runs and this is the lowest total in the history of WBBL. Ah, the scorecard resembles like a telephone number, Dunkley topping the list with 9 runs to her name. The defending champions, Adelaide Strikers Women win by a massive 148 runs and kick off their season campaign with a bang.

Full-length delivery a shade outside off. Sophie swings hard at it and gets the thick outside edge of the bat on it. The keeper makes no mistake and takes it easily. The defending champions announce their season in style.
