That's it from the opening game of LPL 2023. We will be back with more LPL action as a double header is on its way for us tomorrow. Do join us for those games and for other cricketing actions across the globe and across formats, stick around to our network.

For now, this is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Deepak Prakash alongside scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Goodnight and CHEERS!
Thisara Perera (Jaffna Kings Captain): "Yeah, a really good start for us in the fourth edition of LPL. Definitely, I have confidence in my players. I think Miller has arrived already and he will be available for the next game."
Chamika Karunaratne (Colombo Strikers Acting Captain): "No, I think it was good to chase. We should have kept them to 160 but gave away runs. We could have chased down this. We were one batter short and went with local player. Definitely, the run out was crucial. Ramesh was doing well. I will take the blame for the run out from my end and hope to come back in the next game."
Vijayakanth Viyaskanth (Player of the Match): "Yeah, really happy about it. (On R Ashwin) We are talking on Instagram also. He said good luck. I didn't have any plan just bowled wicket to wicket."
11:24 PM IST and Local Time: Time for the post-match presentation ceremony.
11:10 PM IST AND Local Time: Defending champions Jaffna Kings start LPL 2023 with a comfortable 21-run win over Colombo Strikers at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. They batted well and bowled well and did enough to win the game. They survived the Dickwella onslaught and managed to hold their nerves.

Chasing 174 for the win, Colombo Strikers lost Babar Azam and Pathum Nissanka early. Skipper Niroshan Dickwella held the innings together and scored 58 off 34 balls but lost his partners from the other end. Nuwanidu scored 17, Lanka scored 11. Chamika Karunaratne chipped in with a useful 23 while Ramesh Mendis fell for 17 off 10 balls. All in all, it turned out to be a bridge too far as they went down by 21 runs.

From Jaffna Kings' point of view, Hardus Viljoen got 3 wickets to his name. A couple of wickets apiece for Dilshan Madushanka and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth. A wicket also for Thisara Perera. Theekshana had an off day as he went for runs. There were two run outs as well as the Kings did their job with plomb.

Earlier in the game, Jaffna Kings were put into bat by Strikers and they got off to decent starts but could not kick on. Nishan Madushka scored 12, Gurbaz a quickfire 21 off 11 balls. Asalanka scored 12. Towhid Hridoy stood out as he scored 54 off 39 balls. Priyamal scored 22 while Wellalage chipped in with a useful 25. Skipper Thisara was unbeaten on 14* off 7 balls. 13 extras were given by the fielding side.

Wickets were shared in the Strikes' bowling. So, a wicket apiece for Naseem Shah, Chamika Karunaratne, Matheesha Pathirana, and Sandakan. All in all, a decent bowling display but the batters let them down.

So, Jaffna Kings win by 21 runs to get points on the board straightaway. Stick around for the presentations that comes your way soon.
