Earlier, after being invited to bat first in a rain-curtailed 9 overs game, England Women lost Danielle Wyatt for a 3-ball duck but Maia Bouchier (23) and Alice Capsey (28) scored at a brisk pace from the word go and provided the necessary acceleration in the innings. Heather Knight contributed 15 runs off 8 balls, while Sophie Ecclestone's six off the last ball of the innings helped the hosts post 89 runs.

Lea Tahuhu and Amelia Kerr bagged a couple of wickets each for the White Ferns, while Hannah Rowe and Leigh Kasperek contributed one wicket each.
