Hashmatullah Shahidi (Afghanistan Captain):"Yes, this win tastes nice. The way we chased was very professional. We are now looking forward to the other games.
See, the quality cricket that we played for the last 2 years and then we played Asia Cup. We wanted to show quality and wanted to play positive cricket. We beat England and Pakistan and hopefully more to come.
The spinners were terrific and the way Noor bowled was amazing. The way Gurbaz and Ibrahim started was great for us and then the way Rahmat and myself finished off was the icing on the cake.
We are feeling positive and looking forward to the coming games. We are confident we can win more games from here."
Babar Azam (Pakistan Captain):"Yes, we have a lost against Afghanistan. Yes, it hurt us a lot. The runs were on the board. I think we didn't bowl well enough.
Yes, we are not up to the mark. In the World Cup, we need to tick all three departments. If we fail in any one of the departments, you are gonna lose.
I think yes. We started well while bowling, but we couldn't take wickets. All credit to Afghanistan. They did well in all 3 departments, and hence they won. We need to do well in the coming matches. We didn't play good cricket, and hence we are losing.
We have to get ourselves back to doing well in all departments, and let us see how the next goes for us. We need to pick ourselves up.
To be honest, Ramiz bhai, in the second innings, we didn't hit the right lengths and gave away boundaries every over, especially the spinners, if you bowl 2-3 dots, you can put pressure on the batters, which we didn't."
Mohammad Nabi: "Absolutely big moment for Afghanistan. We have played eight games against Pakistan and won in a big event. It's a lovely moment today. We beat England as well, and now Pakistan. The team is confident now.
In the last moments, we tend to lose many games. We thought it was the same wicket as against New Zealand, but it was totally changed. Noor Ahmad bowled brilliantly in the good areas. Rahmat Shah and Shahidi batted well in the last following the brilliance from the openers.
A lot of close games, and this is a fantastic feeling. We shouldn't have lost against Bangladesh.
But now half the tournament is gone. We have games against Sri Lanka and Netherlands as well. We gave a lap of honour at the ground, and hopefully, in Pune also, they will support us."
Ibrahim Zadran (POTM): "First of all, I am very thankful to the almighty that I performed well in this kind of big tournament. I wanted to go there and bat longer to score runs for my side.
Exactly, many times I and Gurbaz added big partnerships. We have a good understanding between us. We have played together since the Under-16 stages. He is a good motivator. I am feeling very glad for myself and for my country.
I want to dedicate this player of the match award to those peoples whom Pakistan have sent back to Afghanistan."
Player of the Match: Ibrahim Zadran
The players of Afghanistan go around the ground to celebrate their win. They take selfies and go for a lap of honour at Chennai. This is the first time that Pakistan have lost an ODI match at Chennai. Rashid, Mujeeb, Gurbaz, Nabi and all are pumped. Noor Ahmad, the youngest to feature in this tournament, Ajay Jadeja, Trott and all go around the venue. This is an inspiring story. Gurbaz has some quality words to say to the buggy camera. Wow! Absolute goosebumps!
