Time for us to take your leave! It has been a long day! A double-header Tuesday has ended with a record-breaking stuff from Pakistan. Earlier, England thrashed Bangladesh at Dharamsala. Now, Pakistan created history with the highest successful run-chase in the World Cups. Tomorrow, India will take on Afghanistan at Delhi! We will meet again.

For now, it is me, AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Sidharth Gulati and Ayan Chatterjee, who, alongside our scorer/analyst Paras Yadav brought you all the live-action of this banger of a cricket game. Cheers!
Akshaya: Where did Sri Lanka lose this game? Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama hammered centuries after Pathum Nissanka scored a half-century. They set a huge target of 345 for Pakistan, and the latter didn't have any record of chasing more than 265 in World Cups. Maybe, the death bowling of the Men in Green was excellent, and hence, Sri Lanka failed to get a few more runs... But 345 is too big in itself!

Pakistan were down by 2 wickets, 2 big wickets! Bringing in Shafique for Fakhar Zaman proved to be a mastermind move in the end. Everyone questioned his approach during the first 20 overs. The required rate was climbing, and the time was getting out of hand. But both Shafique and Rizwan, I mean, it was an unbelievable riddle for the Lankans to solve.  Both hit hundreds. Shafique proved his worth, while Rizwan was a solider. He had cramps and was down, and looked like he would never get up! Credits to him for his bravery. A match-winning innings and helped Pakistan to set a new World Cup record.

Babar Azam (Pakistan Captain): "Thanks to Allah. Thanks to Abdullah Shafique and Rizwan for the win to give us the win. He kept wickets and then that innings that he played was great to see.

Credit to our bowlers for the last 10 overs. But we were not upto the mark in the first 20-30 overs. Credit for the comeback goes to the boys.

I am really happy that Shafique did the job for us. He is hungry and practises really hard to play and he and Rizwan made it easy for us in the end and gave us the win.

Good for us that others are firing for us. The top order did not fire for us and the middle order bailed us out today which is good. Always good to see others contributing.

Yes, Hyderabad has been good to us the hospitality and now we have to leave them. So, I thank the crowds for wholeheartedly supporting us and we are overwhelmed with it. Thank you so much."
Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka Captain): "(Kusal) Mendis is in unbelievable form. He has been amazing so far. Hopefully, there's more to come from him. Sadeera (Samarawickrama) was outstanding. We were 20-25 runs short. We should have finished stronger with the bat. We need to bowl in the right areas. We gave away too many extras and we need to improve in that area."
STAT ATTACK - This was Rizwan's fourth 50+ score in his last five ODI innings. Wow!
Mohammad Rizwan (Player of the Match): "Thanks to Allah. Always a proud moment for your country when you perform for them. It was a tough chase. The belief was there that we could chase it down.

Yes, Babar Azam got out. It was a team game and we knew we could do it. The wicket out there was good to bat on.

I spoke to Shafique and the talk was on breaking down the innings and take it 20 overs at a time and set small targets to get the win. It was a sporting wicket, and that helped me a lot.

The cramps were there, but now I am feeling fine. It happens to me sometimes. Was in pain but fought through it. Sometimes cramps, sometimes acting (chuckles) ."
Earlier in the match, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first as Hyderabad hosted its final match of this World Cup. Hasan Ali struck early, removing Kusal Perera for a duck. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis added 102 runs for the 2nd wicket. Nissanka got back in form with a fifty while Mendis helped himself to another swashbuckling knock.

Mendis made full use of his dropped chances and clobbered the fastest hundred in the World Cup for a Sri Lankan. Another massive partnership of 111 runs followed it with the Lankan number 3 and the crisis man Sadeera Samarawickrama piling on the agony on Pakistan’s sloppy fielding.

Mendis smacked 122 off 77 balls, hitting 14 fours and 6 maximums. Samarawickrama smashed his maiden ODI hundred and was brilliant for his 108 off 89 with 11 fours and 2 sixes. Sri Lanka lost their way in the final half of the innings, with the Pakistani bowlers picking regular wickets as the Island nation posted 344/9 in 50 overs.

Hasan Ali was the successful bowler for Pakistan as he picked 4 wickets despite going for 71 runs in his 10 overs. All of the bowlers went the journeys. Haris Rauf bowled a brilliant last over, scalping a couple of wickets, while Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz picked a wicket each.
10:25 PM IST and Local Time: Pheeeww!!!! Pakistan have created history! All thanks to Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique for their unbelievable innings'. Rizwan is down on the pitch and thanking god after taking his side home in a massive run chase. This is the highest successful run chase in the history of the World Cup. Pakistan have broken the 12-year-old record of Ireland, who beat England chasing 328 at Bengaluru in the 2011 World Cup

Remember, Pakistan didn't have any success chasing in excess of 265 prior to this game, and now, they are sitting at the throne of the run-chases. Sri Lanka fail to grab the opportunity to break the jinx against Pakistan in World Cups as they are yet to win against their Asian Counterparts in the 50 overs World event.

Arriving at the chase, the Men in Green lost important wickets inside the first Powerplay, with Dilshan Madushanka dismissing Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam cheaply. But what turned up next was a miracle! Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan glued together for a 176-run partnership for the third wicket, batting Sri Lanka out of the game. Both the batters breached the 3-figures mark, which made the Lankans drop their shoulder.

Shafique (113 off 103) was dismissed in the 34th over, with the substitute fielder Dushan Hemantha taking a blinder of a catch at backward point. Saud Shakeel (31 off 30) supported Rizwan, adding 95 runs for the 4th wicket before Iftikhar Ahmed (22* off 10) finished things off in a hurry as Pakistan chased down the record total of 344 with 10 balls and 6 wickets in hand. Rizwan battled cramps to remain unbeaten 131 off 121 balls and hit the winning runs!
