Earlier in the game, MI New York won the toss and elected to bat first. MI New York encountered frequent wicket losses throughout their innings. Dewald Brevis managed to reach double figures, while Nicholas Pooran held the innings together with his 38 off 37 balls. However, it was Tim David's explosive unbeaten knock of 48 runs from just 21 deliveries that propelled MI New York from a precarious position to a final total of 155/8 in 20 overs. Trent Boult remained not out on 7 runs, while the Los Angeles Knight Riders conceded a notable 23 extras during the match.
Overall, the Knight Riders displayed a commendable bowling
performance but faltered towards the end. Adam Zampa stood out as the standout
bowler, claiming figures of 2/25 in his 4 overs. Ali Khan and Corne Dry both
took two wickets each. Although Lockie Ferguson managed to secure a wicket, he
proved to be expensive. Sunil Narine, on the other hand, remained wicketless
but delivered an economical spell.
Los Angeles Knight Riders endured a disastrous batting performance while chasing a target of 156 runs. They lost three crucial wickets within the first three overs, with only two runs on the scoreboard. Unmukt Chand and Jaskaran Malhotra provided some resistance, stitching together a 23-run partnership for the fourth wicket. However, Knight Riders continued to lose wickets at regular intervals and ultimately collapsed for a mere 50 runs in 13.5 overs. Unmukt Chand was the top scorer for the team, reaching the only double-digit mark.
MI New York's bowlers delivered an exceptional performance, with Nosthush Kenjige and Ehsan Adil being the standout performers, each claiming two wickets while conceding just 7 runs in their three overs. Kieron Pollard, Kagiso Rabada, and Trent Boult also contributed with a couple of wickets each.
The post-match presentation awaits as the teams reflect on the match.
