That's it from this Qualifier match. We will be back with more action from the World Cup Qualifiers tomorrow and for other cricketing actions across the globe, stick around to our network. For now, this is AyanChatterjee signing off on behalf of my co-commentator DeepakPrakash alongside scorer/analyst Dushyant Madhukar Kumar. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Goodnight and CHEERS!
RichieBerrington(ScotlandCaptain): " Absolutely. After the win against Ireland, we had to adapt to the conditions and perform better. We had to weather the storm and glad we did it. Yes, we had to show patience and manage the situation. Good to get some partnerships out there and get to 280+. Leask, Watt helped me a lot with the bat. Yes, we are here and looking to take wickets. That helps and that was the plan. We kept getting wickets at regular intervals unlike last match where we let them off the hook. Yes, pleasing to see the improvement. Yes, cannot get complacent and we have a tough game against Oman coming up on Sunday. So, we will take it one game at a time and won't think about the Super 6 at this stage. Yes, looking forward to the upcoming games."
Muhammad Waseem (UAE Captain): "We started pretty well and took 6 wickets for 115-120 but their captain played very well and took the game away from us. Yeah, started well but lost a few wickets quickly. I think we need some patience. Yeah, we can't qualify now but we want to win that and look to put some points on the table."
Richie Berrington (Player of the Match):"Yeah, pleasing for me to make a contribution today to the team to get up to a good score. Yeah, as we expected the first hour there was assistance for the bowlers and UAE bowlers bowled really well. They asked a lot of questions of us. We were under pressure losing early wickets. Leask came in and took the pressure off, with Watt at the end. I was trying to run hard and put the ball in the gaps. Whatever we do, we have to be our best and try to execute our skills as best as we can. "
7:20 PM IST, 3:50 Local Time: A comprehensive win for Scotland in the end as they win the game by 111 runs to make it 2 wins out of 2 games. They have outplayed their opposition after losing the toss and weather the early storm to win the game. With this loss, UAE have been knocked out of the reckoning as far as the Super 6 is concerned.
Chasing a stiff target of 283 for their first win in the competition, UAE never got going and did not have anyone scoring a substantial score. Skipper Muhammad Waseem scored 36 off 57 balls. Rohan Mustafa scored 12 while Asif Khan got 17. Basil Hameed got a good 30. Ali Naseer scored 19. Aayan Afzal Khan scored 21 off 24 balls. Karthik Meiyappan scored an unbeaten 23* off 28 balls. But these scores won't take UAE far as they were eventually bowled out for 171 in 35.3 overs. Just 3 extras were given by the fielding side.
It was a disciplined bowling performance from Scotland as all of them chipped in. Safyaan Sharif was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/20 in 6.3 overs. He was ably supported by Chris Sole who picked up 3 wickets for 37 runs in 8 overs. A wicket apiece for Brandon McMullen, Mark Watt, and Chris Greaves as all did their part today.
Earlier in the game, Scotland were put into bat by UAE and did not have it all their way early on. They lost their openers early McBride went early while Cross scored 13. McMullen went early as well. But it was the skipper Richard Berrington show as the Scotland skipper led from the front with the bat. He scored 127 off 136 balls as he held the innings together. This was his 4th ODI hundred and his first in 15 innings. It was a welcome return to form.
He was ably supported by last match's hero Michael Leask who scored 41 off 46 balls. Chris Greaves chipped in with 22 off 28 balls and a useful unbeaten 44* off 31 balls from Mark Watt propelled the score of Scotland past the 280-run mark. They ended with 282/8 in 50 overs with the help of 13 extras given by the fielding side.
The UAE bowlers started well and lost the plot after having Scotland in all sorts of trouble at one stage. Junaid Siddique was the pick of the bowlers as he finished with 3/49 in 10 overs. He was ably supported by Ali Naseer who bowled 9 overs and picked up 2/37. A wicket for Zahoor Khan as well while Karthik Meiyappan got the other wicket to fall. Aayan Afzal Khan and Rohan Mustafa remained wicketless.
So, Scotland makes it 2 wins out of 2 and joins Sri Lanka and Oman at the top of the points table in Group B with 4 points. UAE are out of the reckoning now with this loss. Stick around for the presentations.
