So, that’s all the action from the 2nd CPL 2023 encounter. This has been a solid comeback from Saint Lucia Kings after facing a defeat in the season opener. They have defeated Barbados Royals comprehensively by 54 runs to get off the mark. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world. For now, this is Megh Mandaliya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ayan Chatterjee alongside our scorer/analyst Ghanendra Singh Thakur. Cheers!
Faf du Plessis (St. Lucia Kings Captain): "Really good batting effort. We did well in the first six overs and put the pressure on them. We took learnings from last night and did well in the powerplay. The ball swung a little bit more than yesterday and so pacers bowled. Spin option was there in Chase. So, we looked at taking wickets and the middle phase and spinners bowling and did well in the end.  Confidence is a big thing in the end. We did a lot of things well last night. We were better. Catching was challenging but we were better and thank goodness that we won today and happy with the win."
Rovman Powell (Barbados Royals Captain): "Yeah, you're right, it was a tough one. We did not stick to our plans as a bowling unit and when you lose 3-4 wickets inside the powerplay, you're always going to be behind in the game. But having said that, a few other guys bowled really well. We knew we can lose the game powerplay. I think when you look back at it, young Nyeem Young was a big positive for us. Just keep on improving in all the departments. It's a young team and as a young team, you need a little bit of time to get better. Hopefully, next game we can do better."
Matthew Forde (Player of the Match): "Yeah, I am carrying a bit of form for a while now. Obviously, the Canada series and now coming into the CPL. The conditions were good so I just made the use of it. My mother is from here and I also spent a lot of time here when I was younger. No, I just tweaked something but should be back for the next game."
8:24 AM IST, 10:54 PM Local Time: A comprehensive win for St. Lucia Kings as they have outplayed Barbados Royals in all facets of the game to win by 54 runs and get their first win this season. Royals fought till the end and reduced the margin of defeat. But it was a foregone conclusion as the hosts bounce back to win tonight after suffering a narrow loss last night.

Chasing a mammoth 202 for the win, the Royals were never in the chase and lost wickets in the powerplay. They lost 5 wickets in the powerplay and lost the game there. Cornwall was run out. Kyle Mayers scored 16 off 13 balls. Wickham scored 10 off 10 balls. Jason Holder scored 10. Ferreira scored 19 off 12 balls. Nyeem Young had a late flurry in the end and scored 48 off 39 balls to reduce the deficit. Joshua Bishop also got to double figures. The fact that they got to 147 was due to the 22 extras conceded by the fielding side.

Matthew Forde was the pick of the bowlers for St. Lucia Kings picking up 3 wickets for 12 runs in 3 overs. The rest of the bowlers who bowled picked up a wicket each. So, a wicket each for Chris Sole. Alzarri Joseph, Sikandar Raza, Khary Pierre, Roston Chase and Descartes as well.

Earlier in the game, St, Lucia Kings won the toss and decided to bat first. Johnson Charles got off to a fast start scoring 30 off 19 balls. Skipper Faf du Plessis scored 46 off 32 balls. Sean Williams played well for his 47 off 30 balls. Sikandar Raza scored a quickfire 23 off 13 balls. Roston Chase scored 14 off 10 balls. Primus scored 21* off 14 balls as well. 16 extras were given by the fielding side as the Kings scored 201/6 in 20 overs.

Jason Holder was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/38 in 4 overs. A couple of wickets for Qais Ahmad as he finished with 2/35 in 4 overs. The rest of the bowlers went wicketless and it was a tough day in the office for the Royals as a whole today.

So, a win by 54 runs for the Kings as they notch up their first win this season.  Work to do for the Royals as they will look to bounce back in the upcoming games. This is the just the start of the tournament. Stick around for the presentations.

19.6 S Descartes to N Young
W WICKET! Smart bowling from Descartes. He follows the batter on this occasion and gets the reward. Fuller and around the leg stump line, Young looks to hoick that across the line but was cramped for room. He doesn't time that as the ball balloons up in the air. The long-on fielder Sikandar Raza runs forward and takes a good catch. Young falls two runs short of a half-century. Saint Lucia Kings defeat Barbados Royals convincingly by 54 runs.
19.5 S Descartes to N Young
0 Back of a length and outside off, Young flat bats that to long-off and denies a single.
19.4 S Descartes to N Young
6 SIXX MORE! Young is eyeing a half-century here. Fuller and outside off with the pace being taken off, Young makes room early, picks up the length, and swats that towards off-side as the ball sails over deep extra covers for another maximum.
19.3 S Descartes to N Young
6 SIXX! 119.3 kph. Back of a length delivery on the middle and leg stump, Young stays deep inside the crease and clobbers that across the line as the ball sails over the deep square leg region for a maximum.
19.2 S Descartes to N Young
0 Back of a length delivery angling into the leg stump line at 101.6 kph. Young charges down the track again and toe ends the heave into the surface for a dot.
19.1 S Descartes to N Young
2 Over the wicket. Back of a length delivery on the top of middle stump with the pace being taken off, Young advances down the track and drags that to deep mid-wicket for a couple of runs.

18.6 A Joseph to O McCoy
0 137.7 kph. Short of a length delivery on the top of middle and leg stump, McCoy looks to hoick that across the line but misses that to the keeper.
18.5 A Joseph to O McCoy
0 130.9 kph. Back of a length delivery on the top of middle stump, McCoy hangs back and dabs that to backward point.
18.4 A Joseph to N Young
1lb A low full toss outside off stump at 137.9 kph. Young shuffles across and looks to scoop that away but wears that on his front pad as the ball rolls to deep fine leg for a single off leg byes.
