That's it from the opening encounter from the CPL 2023. We will be back with more action from CPL tomorrow and we have got loads of cricketing action coming your way in our network from across the world across formats. For now, this is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Anirudh Modi alongside scorer/analyst Ghanendra Singh Thakur. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Goodbye and CHEERS!
Brandon King (Jamaica Tallawahs Captain): "I mean, it's a new challenge to me. The guys made it easier. Experienced men and had to manage things there. No, I don't think so. Have an important role to play up at the top of the order and batted well to get to that total. The guys figured it out, the bowling plans and all. The spinners bowled well and the pacers did their job. Wouldn't say worried. It was close, but I back my bowlers. Salman bowled well and held his nerves in the end. Happy that we won today and hope to carry on the momentum."
Faf du Plessis (St. Lucia Kings Captain): "I think if you look at the ground stats it was 10-15 too many. Credit to King as he played well and they bowled well. The spinners and they took pace off the ball as well. Obviously, their spinners and Green all of them bowled well. We looked at the wicket and there was bounce in it. Spinners bowled well but their spinners bowled better than us. I think, we know one of them had to bat through, but didn't. One of us needed to get going and we didn't. Great to see Chase doing well with both bat and ball. Sure it was difficult. Lots of catches were dropped, but I should be catching those for sure. Wind is there so that's a factor. No excuses from our end."
Brandon King (Player of the Match and Jamaica Tallawahs Captain): "I am just pleased to get the win and happy to contribute to the team. Definitely, that knock against India helped and I am feeling good at the crease. I am feeling good everything comes in flow. Kirk played well as well and happy for him."
Brandon King is the Player of the Match.
8:33 AM IST, 11:03 PM Local Time: An entertaining start to CPL 2023 as the Jamaica Tallawahs hold their nerves to win the game by 11 runs against the hosts St. Lucia Kings. The defending champions start with a win as they outplayed their opponents in the key moments of the game.

Chasing a mammoth 188 for the win, the Kings lost skipper Faf du Plessis early. Johnson Charles chanced his luck and scored 24 off 22 balls. Sean Williams scored 26 off 22 balls. Roston Chase held the innings together with his 53 off 31 balls and was ably supported by Primus who scored 37 off 20 balls. The rest of the batting faded away as they ended with 176/8 in 20 overs. 12 extras given by the fielding side.

Imad Wasim was the pick of the bowlers for Jamaica Tallawahs with figures of 3/27 in 4 overs. Chris Green gave him good support with his 2/28 in 4 overs. A couple of wickets for Salman Irshad as he finishes with 2/39 in 4 overs as he held his nerve in the final over. Amir was disappointing to say the least today.

Earlier in the game, Jamaica Tallawahs were invited to bat first by Faf du Plessis. Kirk McKenzie got off to a breezy start and scored 20 off 11 balls. But it was the Brandon King show as the skipper scored a masterful 81 off 53 balls. Brooks scored 12 off 12 balls. Reifer scored 16 off 18 balls while Fabian Allen played a breezy cameo of 15 off 6 balls. Imad Wasim scored 19 off 14 balls. 18 extras were given by the fielding side as Jamaica ended with 187 in 20 overs.

Roston Chase was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/39 in 4 overs. Alzarri Joseph gave him good support and kept it tight with figures of 2/21 in 4 overs. A wicket for Forde, and Chris Sole as well on debut. They tried, but fell short in the end.

So, a win by 11 runs for the Tallawahs as they begin their campaign with a win, Back to the drawing board for the St, Lucia Kings. Stick around for the presentations.
