Chasing a healthy total of 183, Lucknow Super Giants were off to a sedate start. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Fazalhaq Farooqi spearheaded the attack for Hyderabad and bowled immaculate lines inside the powerplay and kept the batters quiet. As a result, Lucknow only managed to score 12 runs off the first three runs. As the pressure was starting to build, Aiden Markram introduced part-timer Glenn Phillips into the attack and the right-arm spinner had an immediate impact. Phillips dismissed the southpaw Mayers, who had to walk back for a scratchy 2(14).
Following Mayers’ departure, Quinton de Kock hurried the innings and smashed Mayank Markande for two consecutive boundaries in the 7th over. The left-hander de Kock kept hunting for boundaries, however, Markande had his revenge eventually as de Kock 29(19) departed on attempting a needless reverse sweep. Prerak Mankad walked in at number 3 and kept moving the scorecard gradually but he was unable to accelerate the innings as Lucknow was reeling at 68/2 at the halfway stage of the innings.
Following that over, the hosts were unable to crawl back into the contest as Pooran and Mankad went all guns blazing. The southpaw aggregated a sensational 44*(13) while Mankad also orchestrated 64*(45) and eased Lucknow to a victory. The SRH pacers were unable to clinch a wicket today as all three wickets were scalped by spinners tonight.
Earlier in the day, after electing to bat first, Abhishek Sharma and Anmolpreet Singh powered the Sunrisers to a decent enough start. The right-handed Anmolpreet swatted some early boundaries before Yudhvir Singh Charak drew first blood for Lucknow by outwitting Abhishek 7(5) with some extra bounce. Rahul Tripathi walked in at number 3 and stepped on the gas straightaway. He and Anmolpreet went on an onslaught in the 5th over and thumped Avesh Khan was four boundaries.
Yash Thakur broke the quick 37-run partnership for the 2nd wicket by dismissing Tripathi 20(13) with a brilliant bouncer. Anmolpreet Singh continued to pile up runs from the other end and aggregated 36(27) before Amit Mishra bagged his wicket. The Hyderabad skipper Aiden Markram then paired up with Heinrich Klaasen and they were maneuvering the ball nicely in the middle overs. They stitched a 33-run partnership for the 4th wicket, and just when Sunrisers were cruising towards a massive total, the LSG skipper turned the game on his head.
The left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya brought himself back into the attack in the 13th over and outfoxed Aiden Markram 28(20) followed by another big wicket of Glenn Phillips 0(1). Back-to-back wickets from Krunal completely shifted the momentum of the game and Lucknow had a golden opportunity to climb back into the contest, but their spinners gifted some half-trackers to Heinrich Klaasen, and the right-hander made certain that those sail in the stands.
Klaasen accumulated a crucial 47(29) before he holed out in the deep. Abdul Samad also chipped in with 37*(25), which included 1 four and 4 maximums to his credit. Krunal Pandya was the pick of the bowlers for LSG and ended with the figures of 2/24. Stick around for the post-match presentation!
