Milestone
That was it from this fixture. Mumbai Indians won the match and won the heart on an ESA day in Mumbai. We will shift our focus to the next game where GT are taking on RR at Ahmedabad. But before shifting, let me finish off the job here. I am AkshayaKrishna Polya signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Arijit Kundu, who, alongside our scorer/analyst Paras Yadav will bring you all the live-action of this mouth-watering fixture. Join us in the next game. Until then, it's cheers!
Venkatesh Iyer: "Thank you, would have been happier if we had finished on a winning note but nonetheless, pleased with my batting. That is the role that management has assigned to me, and it is my responsibility to repay them. Obviously, it was a lovely wicket to bat on. Once you've scored 30-40 runs, scoring becomes easy. I'm overjoyed to have scored a hundred. Their new ball bowlers are both swing bowlers, and it becomes difficult once they settle down. So I didn't want to allow them to settle. It becomes easier to play them once the swing goes off. When you're out there doing something for the team, you forget about your injury. The wicket was fantastic, and I was having a great time out there. In retrospect, I believe we scored 15-20 runs fewer, and the way MI was going, they could have scored it in another over. But yeah, we were short."
Player of the Match: Venkatesh Iyer
Suryakumar Yadav (Mumbai Indians Captain): "Obviously we are happy. And that is what the chat was all about before the game. I would have loved to finish the game but happy with the way I batted. I was very pleased with how the team performed. We thought the wicket was a little dry in the afternoon, but the way the guys batted settled it down in the evening. In day games at the Wankhede, 160-170 is a good score and can be chasable too if one gets a good start. That is what exactly Kishan did. He got us off to a great start. I took my time with the first five-seven balls, thinking that if I could get my eye in, I could score. I walked onto bat very confident, relaxed and tension free. We know what kind of firepower we have lower down the order if the top order gives us a good start. (Piyush Chawla) It was a legendary spell. He raised his hand when were under pressure. He always asks for the bowling whenever the pressure is there."
Active Catch of the Match: Hrithik Shokeen
Longest Six Hit in the Match: Tim David (95m)
Most Fours Hit in the Match: Venkatesh Iyer
Most Valuable Asset of the Match: Venkatesh Iyer
Game Changer of the Match: Venkatesh Iyer
Electric Striker of the Match: Ishan Kishan
7:38 PM IST | Time for post-match presentations...
The Wankhede crowd has gone berserk as all the players of MI, their team management and a few WPL players of MI run across the ground to acknowledge the crowd. It has been a brilliant day for MI and the ESA day has done wonders...
Nitish Rana (Kolkata Knight Riders Captain): "I think we were 15-20 runs shot. Feeling sorry for Venky, that he played so well, scored a hundred and still ended up on the losing side. Whole teams knows that (Venky Iyer is the second centurion for KKR). In the upcoming matches, hopefully even others will score centuries.

The way Ishan targeted Sunny, was special. We could have dragged the game had we bowled better in power-play. Would want my bowling unit to deliver. 1-2 bad games is not a cause of worry, but if we are failing in 5 matches, that is a sign of worry as the captain."
Rohit Sharma came in as an impact player and opened the batting for MI alongside Ishan Kishan. Both came out all guns blazing and smashed the KKR bowlers to all parts of Mumbai. While Kishan hammered boundary after boundary, Rohit's stay was short but was an entertaining one. Umesh Yadav took a blinder at the edge of the circle to dismiss Hitman (20 off 13) in the 5th over. But before getting out, Rohit added 65 runs for the first wicket in no time with his partner Kishan doing all the hard yards off tonking boundaries.

Kishan (58 off 25) went on to score his first IPL fifty this year and was out a few balls after the milestone, while the number three batter Suryakumar Yadav (43 off 25) played a quickfire knock and came back into the form with a bang. He was magnificent with his trademark shots and alongside Tilak Varma (30 off 25) set up the match for MI. Both added 60 runs for the third wicket before the latter lost his stumps to Suyash Sharma (2/27), who was brilliant with the ball for KKR.

Tim David and SKY played some good shots and tried to finish the game early. But a couple of wickets with MI needing a few runs delayed the finish only for a few deliveries. David (24* off 13) remained unbeaten and took the team home with 14 balls remaining!
Earlier in the afternoon, the stand-in skipper of MI, Suryakumar Yadav, won the toss and decided to bowl first. KKR didn’t start well, as they lost Narayan Jagadeesan for a duck in the second over.

Venkatesh Iyer came at number three, and then it was all about him. The southpaw smashed all the boundaries until the 10th over and fought like a lone warrior with a sour knee. He added 46 runs for the second wicket alongside Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who didn’t contribute much and had another failure in the IPL. Soon after, KKR lost their skipper Nitish Rana in the bowling of Hrithik Shokeen.

But Shardul Thakur was promoted up the order, and he supported the Madhya Pradesh all-rounder in resurrecting the innings with a partnership of 50 runs for the fourth wicket. While Thakur rotated the strike, Venky Iyer was the aggressor smashing boundary after boundary.

After the dismissal of Shardul in the 13th over, Venky slowed down a touch but didn’t lose the momentum and completed his maiden IPL hundred. This was KKR’s first hundred after Brendon McCullum’s 158 against RCB in 2008. Venkatesh Iyer was out at 104 off 51 balls, including 9 sixes and 6 fours, with the team score at 159/6. While Rinku Singh failed to give the team a good finishing, Andre Russell finally struck some lusty blows to propel the team to185/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

For MI, Shokeen picked two wickets and was the best bowler, while apart from debutant Arjun Tendulkar, everyone who bowled scalped a wicket each.
7:20 PM IST | Mumbai Indians dominate the run chase as they go home with two more points by beating Kolkata Knight Riders by 5 wickets! Venkatesh Iyer's century goes in vain as KKR bowlers fail to restrict the opposition. On the other hand, MI batters Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav comeback to form by scoring a good amount of runs in the fixture!
17.4 L Ferguson to T David
1 137.3 KPH!! Full at the middle and leg. David wrists across the line and finds a single down the long on region. Back-to-back wins for Mumbai Indians and they are back with a bang in the competition.
17.3 L Ferguson to C Green
1 Comes around the wicket this time and dishes this fuller at the stumps. Green pushes it down the line and Ferguson fails to gather the ball. It evades past the bowler in between the two legs and offers a single.
