That concludes the presentation and that also wraps up our coverage of the 9th WPL 2023 fixture between the Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants. It was an assertive display from the Capitals in all departments and they defeated Giants comprehensively to sit at the second spot in the points table. The WPL action continues tomorrow as Mumbai Indians take on UP Warriorz. For now, this is Megh Mandaliya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Akshay Bhide, and scorer/analyst Paras Yadav. Cheers and have a good night!

Marizanne Kapp (Player of the Match): "I just wanted to perform so badly for my team. In the previous three games, I missed my lines very much and wanted to step up tonight. If you want to perform, you have to put in the hard work. I let the team down in the three games so wanted it badly. It is tough as an all-rounder. If you pick wickets and don’t score runs, it feels bad. Luckily, I didn’t bat tonight. We have got a great group of players and happy to get across the line tonight."

Player of the Match: Marizanne Kapp
Meg Lanning (Delhi Capitals Women Skipper): "That was a very good show to watch from the other. I was just cheerleading and it was good to watch that. I just said Shafali to stay still and hit the ball straight. She was incredible tonight. It seemed like a new ball wicket and they have some quality bowlers. Kapp was excellent today and her natural lengths work really well on these sorts of surfaces. Really love when she bowls. Very happy, you can't complain about a win like that."
Powerful Striker of the Match: Shafali Verma
Shafali Verma (Delhi Capitals Women): "Just tried to give my best and if we could finish it quickly, we will be able to give the team rest. I was out while playing the flick shot in the last game and I tried to play with a straight bat tonight. The coaches also helped me and asked me to play the shots with a straight bat. So, I’m thankful for them and my family. We knew that if we took the target lightly, we might get out. So, we kept backing each other and it helped. The wicket was good. The ball was skidding and if we had batted first, we surely would have scored 200+."

Sneh Rana (Gujarat Giants Women Skipper): "It’s completely okay. The girls did the best they can but it just wasn’t our day. The pitch was a bit skiddy. The batters missed their lines but it is okay. I think batting first was a good decision. Ball was coming nicely onto the bat and it was nice to bat on. The hand is fine. Hopefully, it will get better. I think Shafali was fantastic tonight. All her shots were incredible."

9:50 PM IST | There it is! Meg Lanning closes things in style. 106 was always going to be a facile task for the Capitals openers and it has been a convincing victory for the Meg Lanning-led side here. They have thwarted Gujarat Giants by 10 wickets (With 12.5 overs to spare) and the Delhi Capitals are back to the winning ways.

Earlier in the day, after electing to bat first, Laura Wolvaardt spearheaded the innings for Giants alongside Sabbhineni Meghana but it wasn’t long enough before Marizanne Kapp cleaned up Meghana 0(2) with a skillful yorker in just the second ball of the innings. However, that did not cease Kapp’s rampage and the right-armer produced two more breakthroughs in quick succession. She first removed Wolvaardt 1(2) with an unplayable inswinger and that was followed by the massive wicket of Ashleigh Gardner 0(1), who was trapped in front.

Shikha Pandey also chipped in with a scalp of Dayalan Hemalatha 5(5) and left Giants reeling at 31/5 after the end of the powerplay. Kapp continued to dictate the ball on her accordance and bagged a sensational five-wicket haul and finished her stint on 5/15 in 4 overs. Georgia Wareham and Kim Garth tried to resurrect the innings by stitching an important 33-run partnership but it was Radha Yadav who dismissed Wareham 22(25) to completely swing the pendulum in favor of the Capitals.

The right-hander Kim Garth kept ticking the scorecard from the other end and played a resilient knock of 32* (37). Eventually, it was her knock that aided Captials to go past the 100-run threshold and give bowlers something to uphold. Apart from Kapp, Shikha Pandey also bowled exceptionally well and finished her stint on 3/26 while Radha Yadav was economical by scalping a breakthrough.

The Capitals openers started on a watchful note inside the powerplay before they went all guns blazing inside the powerplay. Verma was the primary aggressor in the partnership and the Giants’ bowlers had no clue how to stop her. The right-hander kept walloping the ball at regular intervals and registered the second-fastest half-century of the season so far.

Skipper Meg Lanning also played the second fiddle to perfection and cruised the powerplay score to 87/0, which is the highest powerplay score so far in this tournament. Eventually, the skipper Lanning 21* (15) finished the proceedings with a boundary and bagged two crucial points for the Capitals. Shafali Verma ended the innings on 76* (28), including 10 fours and 5 maximums at a whopping strike rate of 271.43.  So, it was a comprehensive victory for the Capitals and it was another pure entertainer in the WPL. Stick around for the post-match presentation!

7.1 G Wareham to M Lanning
4 FOUR!!!! Skipper Meg Lanning finishes things in style. The Delhi Capitals Women chase down the target of 106 in just 7.1 overs. Can you believe it? I can't. Wareham starts with a tossed up delivery down leg, Lanning sweeps it and gets a top edge that flies over the short fine leg fielder for a boundary. A comprehensive win for the Delhi Capitals Women as they beat the Gujarat Giants Women by 10 wickets.

100 up for Delhi Capitals. Just 3 required now.
6.6 M Joshi to S Verma
4 FOUR!!! This is incredible batting from Shafali Verma. Another fuller delivery well outside off, Shafali reaches out at it and scythes it over the cover point fielder for another boundary. 100 up for the Delhi Capitals Women and they are one shot away from the win here.
6.5 M Joshi to S Verma
0 Good length delivery outside off, Shafali shuffles across and defends it straight back to the bowler.
6.5 M Joshi to S Verma
WD Joshi again bangs it short but way above Shafali's head and wide signaled by the square leg umpire.
6.4 M Joshi to S Verma
0 Good response from Joshi. Bangs it short outside off, Shafali looks to cut it over point but misses.
6.3 M Joshi to S Verma
6 SIXXX!!!! This time sails over the ropes. An away swinger on the fuller side outside off, Shafali opens her bat face and slices it over the point region and gets enough to clear the ropes. She is striking close to 300 at the moment.
