Phil Salt | Match Hero: "It was a good wicket and both sides played well, good game of cricket. At the half-way stage the team assessed the conditions well and knew what to do to defend the total. I think a lot of top order batters have struggled this tournament due to various reasons but it felt nice to get a big score today. This year and last year have been almost identical in terms of points in the competition and we hope to make our way into the playoffs this year."
1:47 AM IST, 9:17 PM Local Time: That’s it. The Manchester Originals beat the Trent Rockets by 10 runs and move to the third spot in the points table. Philip Salt played an amazing knock earlier in the day to help the Originals post a good total on the board before their bowlers stepped up and defended it successfully.

The Rockets had the worst possible start to the chase of 182 as they lost Alex Hales on a golden duck in the very first set. Joe Root was joined by Tom Kohler-Cadmore and both kept ticking the scoreboard. They kept finding regular boundaries and scored at a brisk rate. Both Root and TKC put 65 between them off 42 balls before Root fell in trying to be innovative. He tried to reverse scoop but edged one to Jos Buttler to depart on 35.

TKC played some wonderful strokes and brought up his fifty. He was well-supported by Colin Munro from the other end as both made sure that they kept finding boundaries at regular intervals. Munro was caught behind on 36 in the 18th set. Josh Tongue dismissed TKC on 64 in the same set as the Originals came back into the contest.

With 14 required from the last set, Paul Walter of the Originals bowled brilliantly and conceded only three runs and picked the wicket of Sams (13) to help his side win the game by 10 runs. Josh Tongue was the standout bowler for the Originals. He picked up three wickets, giving away 32 runs in his four sets. Paul Walter also chipped in with a couple of scalps as they defended the total successfully.

Earlier, Philip Salt lit Trent Bridge with fireworks. Opening the batting for the Originals, the right-handed batter went berserk and played some fantastic shots. He took down the Rockets bowling from the word go and made full use of the powerplay. His skipper Jos Buttler scored 11 off six balls before falling in the fourth set. Salt continued his merry way at the top of the order as the Originals scored 58 at the end of the powerplay, with Salt scoring 47 of them.

Max Holden and Laurie Evans scored 14 each but it was a one-man show as Salt raced to his fifty in no time and was approaching his century. He hit 12 fours and five maximums before getting cleaned up on 86 off just 32 balls. The other batters failed to contribute but Salt’s innings had already done the damage.

Paul Walter, coming in to bat at six, remained unbeaten on 27 off 19 balls to help the Originals post 181 on the board at the end of their innings. Daniel Sams and Lewis Gregory picked up two wickets apiece for the Rockets. Luke Wood and Samuel Cook also chipped in with a wicket each.
