Match Details
Earlier in the game, India put into bat first and got off to a rollicking start in the first two overs courtesy of Ishan Kishan as they got 26 runs in the first two overs. But they lost their way thereafter. Failures from debutant Shubman Gill, Surya Kumar Yadav, and Sanju Samson as all three got single-digit scores. Ishan Kishan scored 37 off 29 balls at the top of the order. The skipper Hardik Pandya scored 29 off 27 balls. But it was the Deepak Hooda and Axar Patel partnership that took India to a competitive total. They put on an unbeaten stand of 68 runs for the sixth wicket to help India score 162/5 in 20 overs with 5 extras given by the fielding side. Hooda was unbeaten on 41* off 23 balls while Axar was unbeaten on 31* off 20 balls.
A wicket apiece
for Madushanka, Theekshana, Chamika Karunaratne, Dhananjaya de Silva, and
Wanindu Hasaranga. Hasaranga and Theekshana bowled a miserly spell and so did
Silva in his only over. Chamika was decent alongside Madushanka. Only Kasun Rajitha
went the distance and was wicketless.
So, a thrilling win for India by 2 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match T20I series. Stay tuned for the post-match presentation ceremony coming your way soon.
