Milestone
That's it from this thriller that we had for you in Hyderabad. India held their nerve to win the game by 12 runs to go 1-0 up in the series. Both teams head off to Raipur for the second ODI on Saturday. Do join us for that game and for all other cricketing action across the globe across our network. For now, this is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my esteemed co-commentator Akshaya Krishna Polya alongside scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Goodnight and CHEERS!
Shubman Gill: "Yes, I mean was waiting eagerly to go out there and do what I do. Definitely got some momentum and got the sixes. Happy with it. Sometimes when the bowlers are on top, try to put some pressure on them. I wasn't really thinking of 200 but it was more about getting the partnerships and getting the team to a good total. Yes, it's amazing to see him score a double hundred and now he is there for me. He is my best mate. It feels nice to see things going my way. It has sunk in well. Bracewell hit those biggies and the game was topsy-turvy. Great game to be a part of for me."
Shubman Gill is the Player of the Match.
Rohit Sharma (India Captain): "See, to be honest, the way he (Bracewell) batted hats off. He was special tonight. From 5 down, they were at one stage; unless we slipped up immensely, I was confident of my team. He (Bracewell) batted well and took the game closer. I said at the toss, there is not much dew, and hence you need to bowl and bat well to win a game. See, Shubman Gill is a classy batter. He is clear about his approach. He doesn't go aerially very often. He plays the shots really well along the ground. He has a big career ahead. Siraj has been doing it for us for quite some time now. He is an improved bowler. He got us back in the match, bowling well in his final over to get a couple of wickets. He was brilliant. He is carrying out his plans and is very clear about them. That is exactly how it should be."
Power Player of the Match goes to Mohammed Siraj for his performances in the powerplay.
Game Changer of the Match goes to Michael Bracewell for his 140 off 78 balls.
Strongest Player of the Match goes to Michael Bracewell for a six of 95m.
Tom Latham (New Zealand Captain): "Yes, it was an amazing inning. At 131/6 to play an inning like that to put us in that position of winning was great. Hard luck couldn't get over the line. It's right up there, one of his better innings to say the least. We were on the edge of our seats. Yes, a bit of grip, and India used the cutters very well there is a lot of learning for us from this match and we will hope to take the positives out going into the next match."
10:04 PM IST | Time for the post-match presentations...
Akshaya: Then Dasun Shanaka, and now Michael Bracewell. Two high-scoring games, but kudos for these two fighters for making a match of it.
Michael Bracewell: "Yeah, obviously, we (Bracewell and Santner) were trying to give ourselves a chance there. We did well to get where we did. But fell 12 runs short of the target. It is obviously early on in my career, I don't have much photage of these (Indian death bowlers) bowlers bowling at the death. I just looked at their lengths and played my shot. I tried to play them in the gaps as well. Once Mitch (Santner) and I stitched a partnership, we thought of taking the game deep. But never in the partnership thought of winning it. We just kept on batting. To be honest, I feel we kept a little too much, in the end, to do for ourselves. Bowlers bowled well from India, but that is how the game goes. They bowled well in the end."
9:50 PM IST: What a thriller we had here in Hyderabad. India were in control for the majority of the game but was given a huge scare by Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Santner who took the game down to the wire. India held their nerves to win by 12 runs to take a 1-0 lead in this 3-match series. Relief for the Indians to say the least.

Chasing a stiff target of 350 for the win, New Zealand did not get off to the best of the starts as they continuously lost wickets from the get-go. Devon Conway was the first to go for 10 while Finn Allen looked good for his 40. Henry Nicholls scored 18. Tom Latham scored 24 and Glenn Phillips scored 11. At 131/6, things looked all over for New Zealand.

But what followed was something extraordinary, to say the least. It was the Michael Bracewell show alongside amazing support from Mitchell Santner. The duo put on 162 off 111 balls to almost take the game away from India. Santner scored 57 off 45 balls. But Michael Bracewell was there till the end as he scored a brilliant 140 off 78 balls. He hit 12 fours and 10 sixes in the innings. He was the last man to fall as they fell 12 runs short. Shardul Thakur managed to hold his nerve. 19 extras were given by the fielding side as the Kiwis ended with 337 in 49.2 overs.

Mohammad Siraj was the pick of the Indian bowlers as he picked up 4 wickets for 46 runs in 10 overs. Kuldeep Yadav bowled 8 good overs and picked up 2 wickets for 43 runs. A couple of wickets for Shardul Thakur. Mohammad Shami and Hardik Pandya got a wicket each. Apart from Siraj, all the Indian bowlers were taken to the cleaners.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, India got off to a solid start courtesy of their openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. The duo put on 60 for the first wicket. While Rohit fell for 34, Gill carried on as he lit up the afternoon in Hyderabad. It was the Shubman Gill show from start to finish as he scored his 3rd ODI ton and then converted that to his maiden double ton. He was head and shoulders above the other players. He scored 208 off 149 balls. He hit 19 fours and 9 sixes in the innings. Suryakumar Yadav chipped in with 31 off 26 balls. Hardik Pandya scored 28 off 38 balls while Washington Sundar scored 12 off 14 balls. But they were all pale in comparison to what Gill brought out as India posted 349/8 with as many as 13 wides given by the Kiwi bowlers.

Daryl Mitchell picked up a couple of wickets for New Zealand in his 5 overs. Henry Shipley picked up a couple of wickets but went the distance. A wicket apiece for Lockie Ferguson, Blair Tickner, and Mitchell Santner. No wickets for Michael Bracewell. Apart from Santner who kept it tight, the rest of the bowlers went the distance as they had no answers to the exhibition put on by Shubman Gill.

In the end, India wins the game by 12 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series. Stick around for the post-match presentation ceremony that comes your way soon.

49.2 S Thakur to M Bracewell
W WICKETT!! Huge appeal and given out by the umpire. India celebrate but Bracewell reviews it. Yorker on the middle stump line. Bracewell shuffles across his stumps and misses the flick onto the boot. This looks out to the naked eye. Fair delivery. Ultra edge suggests no bat involved. Ball tracking shows three reds, and it's all over for New Zealand. They lose the review, wicket and match as well. It has been a fabulous game of cricket, thanks to Michael Bracewell for his heroics!
49.2 S Thakur to M Bracewell
WD WIDE! Short ball over the head of the batter outside the off. Bracewell shuffles a long way across but misses the pull. Wide called by the square leg umpire.
There you go! That's the first one in the crowd. 14 runs are now needed off 5 balls.
49.1 S Thakur to M Bracewell
6 SIXX!! Shardul Thakur has 20 runs to defend. Over the wicket. Length ball outside the off in the arc for Bracewell. He picks it up and thumps a pull high and handsome way over wide long-on for a huge six.
