Milestone
Brilliant batting display from Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell involving in a massive partnership has helped New Zealand go 1-0 up in the 4-match series. They are having a very good momentum now with England missing a few players to niggles and a few due to experimentations. Now the caravan moves to Rose Bowl for the second ODI on coming Sunday.

Tom Latham (New Zealand Captain): "Yes, it was outstanding. We were great with the new ball and got wickets at crucial times and break the partnerships. Then the partnership of 180 between them. Daryl was great and it was not a flat deck and the way we did it was great to do. Rachin bowled well and got crucial wickets. The guys towards the end bowled into the surface and helped. Young and Devon set it up for us. The score was above par on my view. The longer they went, they put the foot down. Daryl was expressive and good to see how he went. We are not looking too far ahead and we will make a few changes here and there and keep everyone fresh. We want to keep players fresh. Happy with the win."
Jos Buttler (England Captain): "Yeah, it was disappointing. At the halfway mark, I thought the score was a decent one. Tough wicket to bat on but once you stay long enough at the crease, it did became a bit easier.
I thought it was a good toss to lose. Most of us struggled to time the ball. We just couldn't break the partnership. We tried different things to break the partnership. Sometime we had a good pressure building on them. A few good overs from us. A couple of big shots from Daryl Mitchell and he was away.
Very good from Livingstone to give the important impetus to the innings. I think it was very important. I thought it was a par total. We need to have a look after a few people the way the schedule is. But at the same time, we also want to play good cricket. Onto Southampton now and need to asses the condition."

Devon Conway (Player of the Match): "Cheers. thanks a lot. Nice to spend time in the middle and great to get the win. It was just above par and 270 was par. We did well towards the end and the way we played with the bat was great to see. It was different today. The good thing was a lot slower. The partnerships helped us a lot and enjoyed batting alongside Daryl Mitchell. Enjoyed batting with him and long it may continue for us. Happy with the win."

12:19 AM IST and 7:49 PM Local Time: Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell join hands in a massive partnership to derail England in the first ODI of the four-match series! New Zealand have now won three back-to-back white-ball games in England in this tour.
Harry Brook, opening the batting in List-A cricket for the first time, and Dawid Malan started off brilliantly making full use of the opportunity in the absence of the regular openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow after being asked to bat first. Malan (54 off 53) was free flowing in the partnership of 80 scoring a glorious half-century, while Brook (25 off 41) looked a bit scratchy. Rachin Ravindra and Lockie Ferguson dismissed the well-set openers respectively on either side of the first drinks break. Youngster Ravindra soon removed the star batter Joe Root cheaply, reducing England to 101/3.
Ben Stokes, playing his first ODI after reversing his retirement from the format, and the skipper Jos Buttler batted excellently, rebuilding the innings with a partnership of 88 runs for the 4th wicket. Both of the batters got through their respective fifties. Ravindra’s day turned even better as the left-arm spinner broke this partnership with the wicket of Stokes (52 off 69) in the 38th over and finished with his career-best figures of 10-0-48-3.
Buttler supported Liam Livingstone with the latter going honkers and bonkers to push the score of England at a good pace. Livingstone (52 off 40) hammered a quickfire fifty and added 77 runs for the 5th wicket alongside Jos the Boss (72 off 68). Tim Southee struck twice in the 48th over and got rid of both these set batters but was very expensive with figures of 10-0-71-2. David Willey (21* off 11) hit a few big shots in the final overs and smoked a biggie off the last ball of the innings to propel England to 291/6 in 50 overs.
As England, the Kiwis also got off to an excellent start with their openers Devon Conway and Will Young scoring 61 runs for the opening wicket in the first Powerplay. Adil Rashid was brought into the attack after 10 overs bowled a magical delivery to knock over Young (29 off 33). Following which, Henry Nicholls (26 off 30) had a 56-run partnership with Conway for the second wicket, setting a very good platform for the batters to come. What transpired after it was an exhibition to watch.
Conway (111* off 121) batted his way and kept on batting with Daryl Mitchell (118* off 91) hitting an array of strokes one after the other. Both hit glorious centuries and marched on belting the English bowlers left, right and centre, adding an unbeaten 180-run partnership for the 3rd wicket. Mitchell was the aggressor in this stand and was hitting them very neatly, especially making a mockery of the spinners. Conway launched a six in the 4th ball of the 46th over and got New Zealand the win by 8 wickets and an early lead in the ODI series!

6 SIXXXX!!! Conway finishes it off in style. Around the wicket. Fuller-length delivery at the stumps. Conway stays leg side of the ball and gets this one away. Half volley alright but you have to hit that well. Conway does the same. Gets to the pitch of the ball and launches it downtown. With a full flow of the bat, the southpaw hits through the line and smokes it towards the sightscreen for a biggie. Massive partnership and massive hundreds to take Kiwis home with plenty of balls in hand. New Zealand go 1-0 up in the series!
