That's it from our coverage of the 23rd fixture of the Pakistan National T20 2022 between the Central Punjab and Southern Punjab hosted by Multan Cricket Stadium, Multan. We hope you enjoyed our coverage. Megh Mandaliya here, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Akshay Bhide and scorer/analyst Yogesh. Tune in to the 24th fixture between the table-toppers Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh, which will begin shortly. See you there!

Qasim Akram | Central Punjab Skipper: "The plan was to chase down the total quickly but their bowlers bowled well and it was a testing surface to bat on. Our bowlers did a fine job to restrict them to a low total and Tayyab played beautifully in the chase. We have to improve our batting. The top order batters need to contribute."

Agha Salman | Southern Punjab Skipper: "The score is not always enough in 20 overs. If we had scored 130-140, it would have been a fighting total. We have failed to seize the crunch moments and as a result, have lost the games. We have two games remaining and winning those will ensure a place in the knockouts. We will look to give our best."

Tayyab Tahir | Player of the Match: "The wicket wasn’t easy to bat on. The aim is always to build a partnership. The plan was to chase down the total quickly in 10-12 overs but after the wickets fell, we decided to change the plan. An odd-ball was keeping a bit low and happy to get across the line."

Tayyab Tahir is the Player of the Match for his match-winning knock of 41*.
Time for the post match presentation.

6:53 IST | That concludes the 23rd group fixture of Pakistan National T20 2022 between the Southern Punjab and Central Punjab. In a game that was dominated by the bowlers, Central Punjab completely demolished Southern to win this encounter convincingly by four wickets. Central Punjab is slowly coming back into the tournament with three wins on the trot.

In pursuit of a below-par total of 107, Central Punjab started on an electrifying note as they stitched 11 runs of the initial over of Ali Majid. In what was pretended to be an easy chase, Sameen Gul and Mohammed Ilyas attained three wickets inside the powerplay and equaled the position of both teams. Sameen Gul got rid of both the openers as Muhammad Faizan 6(6) and Qasim Akram 11 (19) failed to maximize the powerplay.

Mohammad Akhlaq 17(8) was thumping with a strike rate of over 200 before Mohammad Ilyas got the wood over him. However, that was not enough for Southern Punjab. Tayyab Tahir, who is the leading run-scorer in this tournament, again played a crucial knock of 41 (34) and got his team over the line. Both Sameen Gul (2/22) and Imran Randhawa (2/18) attained two wickets and gave Southern an outside chance.

Before that, Southern Punjab was bundled for 106 courtesy of
Waqas Maqsood (3/21) and Aamer Yamin (3/16). Zain Abbas bagged the most runs for the team but was not enough to get them to a respectable total. Southern Punjab fought hard but 107 turned out to be an easy ask for the Central.

Ultimately, Central Punjab stays alive in the playoff contention with this crucial victory against Southern Punjab. They now round their tally to six points but Central Punjab will stay at the last position in the points table. On the contrary, Southern Punjab has to theoretically win every encounter from now on to give themselves a direct chance of qualification after today’s defeat. For the Central, They have two games remaining in this season, and Central also needs to conquer them both to give themselves an outside chance as the net run rate might factor might ravage their equation. Stay Tuned for the post-match presentation!

16.5 Randhawa to A Yamin
4 Aamer Yamin finishes things in style. Length delivery outside off, Yamin hangs back and opens his bat face to guide it nicely past point for a boundary. The ball races away to the fence and with this, Central Punjab beat Southern Punjab by four wickets.

16.4 Randhawa to Niazi
W GONE. Randhawa comes wide of the crease and bowls on a length on the stumps, Niazi looks to flick it but misses and wears it on the pads in front of the stumps. The umpire has no hesitation in raising his finger. The ball keeps a bit low and Niazi fails to get any bat on it. He falls with just one required to win the game.
The scores are level now.
16.3 Randhawa to T Tahir
1 Good length delivery on the stumps, Tahir taps it with soft hands in front of covers and collects a quick single.

4 FOUR!!!!! Shorter in length around off, Tahir sits deep in his crease and lifts it straight back over the bowler's head for a boundary. Just two away from the victory now.
16.1 Randhawa to Niazi
1 Back of a length delivery outside off, Niazi opens his bat face and guides it to third man for a single.
