Megh: THE MATCH HAS BEEN ABANDONED. The Officials have decided they cannot recommence this game as the rain has gotten a lot heavier. We had ourselves an exciting encounter ahead but the rain played the spoilsport yet again. Both teams will take a point each. The Trinbago Knight Riders would not mind that all as they were in a losing position, and with this point, they became the first team to enter the finals in Women’s CPL. The Guyana Amazon Warriors, on the other hand, would have mixed reactions to that. A point is inconsequential for Guyana as they would still be prescribed to defeat Barbaros to move forward.
In pursuit of 106, Guyana Amazon Warriors started on an electrifying note courtesy of a no-ball of the first delivery by Geetika Kodali. Both Chamari Athapaththu and Rashada Williams soaked the pressure early on and started playing with an assertive mindset before the rain took over.
In the first innings, an excellent bowling effort from Guyana bottled Trinbago for only 105 in 20 overs. Despite constant rain halts, Natasha McLean 20 (26) and Lee-Ann Kirby 8 (15) laid a solid foundation for Trinbago before Cherry Fraser got the first breakthrough for Guyana. The stalwarts Sune Luus 9 (13) and captain Deandra Dottin 21 (18) both failed to break the shackles today and lost their wicket at a crucial juncture. Since then, the Knight Riders could never really accelerate the innings and constantly kept losing wickets. Cherry Fraser claimed the most wickets for Guyana and finished her stint on 3/21. Similarly, Shamilia Connell (1/10) and Ayabonga Khaka (1/13) also delivered economical spells by snatching a wicket. It was Hayley Jensen’s 25 (25), including two boundaries and one maximum that provided bowlers something to uphold.
Ultimately, there was no result. That concludes the 2nd group fixture of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League 2022 between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the Trinbago Knight Riders. Now, one last game remains in the group stages and it is a momentous one considering how the events unfolded today. It is a direct shoot-out between Guyana Amazon Warriors and Barbados Royals for a spot in the final.
