Sean Abbott is the Player of the Match!
5:00 PM IST | In what was a rollercoaster of a match, the Sydney Sixers have defeated Perth Scorchers by 6 runs and it is their first victory against them since 2021. They have finally ended the losing drought against the Scorchers.

In pursuit of a challenging total of 152, the Scorchers lost two quicks in succession as Sean Abbott dismissed Cameron Bancroft 1(2) and Aaron Hardie 1(5). The English opener Stephen Eskinazi, then joined forces with in-form Josh Inglis and soaked up the pressure. The duo kept rotating the strike and were proving perilous for the Sixers before Hayden Kerr attained the third breakthrough and positioned the Scorchers in deep waters.

The Scorchers were tottering at 35/3 when captain Ashton Turner walked into bat and he too strived to time the ball on this sluggish surface. Hence, Scorchers only managed to bag 63 runs at the halfway stage. Hayden Kerr soon attained his second breakthrough as he dismissed Turner 23(16) with an off-cutter. However, Eskinazi kept marching on and brought up his maiden Big Bash half-century.

Eskinazi was assisted by Nick Hobson, who flashed his pyrotechnic abilities and secured a quickfire 27(18) before Abbott once again swung the pendulum in favor of the Sixers by dismissing Hobson. Following that, Daniel Christian delivered a remarkable penultimate over. Eventually, the Scorchers required 16 from the last over, which turned out to be a little too much for them. Sean Abbott was once again the pick of the bowlers for the Sixers and completed his stint with the figures of 3/18.

Earlier in the day, after being invited to bat first Sydney Sixers registered 151/5 on the board. Steve Smith, on his return to the Big Bash, spearheaded the batting attack alongside Josh Philippe, and the duo stitched a 52-run opening partnership. The right-hander Smith was the first one to start the assault while Philippe took the back seat.

The opening stand between the duo was broken by Peter Hatzoglou as Smith 36(27) holed one straight to short covers. The Sixers continued their unhurried approach and only managed to post 76 at the halfway stage. Kurtis Patterson showed little signs of aggression but he too was outwitted by Hatzoglou.

However, Philippe soared back in form and registered a well-constructed 54(48), including only 2 fours and 1 maximum. The Sixers kept losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually it was Ben Dwarshuis off the final delivery that cruised the Sixers past 150. As far as the Scorchers’ bowlers are concerned, Hatzoglou claimed two crucial scalps and finished his stint on 2/27. Jason Behrendorff also clinched a breakthrough and Andrew Tye also discovered some reverse-swing but was unable to find a breakthrough.
