That brings an end to our coverage for this game. Do join us for more cricketing action all around the globe. For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator Megh Mandaliya and scorer Chandan Kr Singh. Bye Bye.
Tom Rogers (Player of the Match): "It was actually really exciting to be here with a pretty good crowd. They are quite vocal as well. We thought we had a pretty good total on the board and fortunately, the ball nipped a little bit. I just focused on hitting the deck hard and everything worked out fine eventually."
Tom Rogers is named the Player of the Match.
04:56 PM IST | Akshay: That’s it. The Renegades come out victorious in the ‘Melbourne Derby’ at the iconic MCG. It was a below-par total posted by them but the bowlers stepped up and made life hard for the Stars as they defended it successfully to win the game by 33 runs. After four consecutive losses, the Renegades get back to winning ways.

Chasing 142, the Stars got off to the worst possible start as they lost Joe Clarke on a golden duck in the very first over. There was no stopping Tom Rogers of the Renegades as he ran through the Stars’ top order and rattled them. The top four Stars’ batters were out on single-digit scores as they were reeling at 18/4 in the fifth over. Hilton Cartwright and Nick Larkin tried to resurrect the innings. They took their time to settle in but the Renegades didn’t allow the pair to get away.

The Renegades bowled brilliantly and kept a lid on the scoring rate. The boundaries dried up and Cartwright fell on 20 while trying to up the ante. Rogers came back for his second spell and picked up his fifth wicket as he finished with figures of 5/16 in his four overs, the best ever for a Renegades bowler in BBL history. Larkin top-scored with 48* for the Stars as they finished their innings on 108/9 to lose the game by 33 runs.

Earlier in the day, the Renegades were asked to bat first. They got off to a steady start. They lost Sam Harper on a first-ball duck before Martin Guptill and Shaun Marsh led the recovery work. Both put 51 between them for the second wicket before Guptill departed on 32. Marsh also fell soon on 32. Jonathan Wells and Mackenzie Harvey started building a partnership for the Renegades.

The Stars bowled beautifully in the middle phase and kept picking wickets at regular intervals. The Renegades lost their way a bit after the departure of Wells on 24 in the 16th over. Harvey hit a couple of boundaries in the end and remained unbeaten on 32 to help his side post 141 on the board. Each of the Stars’ bowlers picked up at least a wicket, with Trent Boult and Luke Wood finishing with two each. Their batters failed to step up and they lost the game by 33 runs.
