So, that's where we wrap up the opening clash of the BBL 12. It was an enthralling and exciting contest and we hope to see more such matches during the competition. This is me, Probuddha Bhattacharjee, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Arijit Kundu and scorer/analyst Manish Bishnoi and Vishnu Verma. Stay tuned for more thrilling action from the world of cricket.
Jason Sangha (Sydney Thunder Captain): "He has always been quite a good batsman. Every time I bowl to him[Gurinder Sandhu] in the nets, he's like that's a four, that's a six. I think Doggy [Brendan Doggett] the first bowl he played, they played for a single, it was a good thought.

I will be watching the highlights later. Yeah, Farooqi bowled an outstanding today. That is the beauty of the Big Bash One thing for us that we assessed the conditions really early today. I think the Surge, sometimes it can bring the bowling team back into the game. It is a gamble with the Surge actually. I told Greeny [Chris Green] to take it, he was like Yeah I'm taking now, I'm taking now. Ultimately he did it."
Gurinder Sandhu (Player of the Match): "I was pretty clear actually. I did have an idea of what was coming. I was like stay still, watch the ball, and do your job. I wasn't really sure, the wicket was really tricky. It was holding sometimes skidding through. The communication with our bowling group and with Jason as a captain was really good. But yes, it was a great game, we had. I think it's awesome. For both us, the coaching staff, and the players as well it was fantastic stuff."

5:10 PM IST | Probuddha: That brings us to the end of the first clash for the BBL 12. An enthralling match where none of the teams managed to bat up to their potential. A low-scoring but thoroughly entertaining match.

Earlier, Sydney Thunder won the toss and opted to field first. The Melbourne Stars lost their first wicket in the 3rd over of the innings. The team’s score at this stage was 24 runs, but they failed to revive themselves and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. In the end, they managed to reach just 122 runs in their 20 overs.

The highest scorer for the Stars was Nick Larkin who scored 25 runs off 26 deliveries. The pick of the bowlers for the Thunder was Daniel Sams who picked up 2 wickets for 21 runs from their 4 overs.

In the chase, Thunder faltered at the very beginning as Trent Bould picked up two wickets in the first over. Much like their opponents, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were down to 71 for 6 in the 12th over of the innings.

But Alex Ross (28 off 27) kept fighting the battle for his team and tried to take the match deep but was dismissed in the 15th over of the innings. This got the Thunder in trouble but Gurinder Sandhu kept his cool and took the match to the last over.

However, a six of the fourth delivery once again changed the complexion of the game and then a fumble by Joe Clarke of the last ball meant that Thunder won the match by one run.

OHHHHH!!!!! Joe Clarke will not forget that for a long time. His mistake costs his team the match, he completely missed the ball and that resulted in the winner.
19.6 B Webster to G Sandhu
1b What have you done Joe Clarke!! Length delivery, just outside the leg stump line. Sandhu swings hard and gets beaten on the inside edge. The ball gushes past the keeper as he misses to grab the ball on this occasion. Sandhu and Doggett run hard for a single as bye. The sphere unfurls towards the fences and Sydney Thunder has done it in the last ball. Brilliant cricket to witness right in the opener of the BBL12. A blunder from Joe Clarke the gloveman and it cost them the match.
JUST SHORT!!!! 1 ball, 1 runs to win. This is an entertaining opener.
19.5 B Webster to G Sandhu
0 Ah!! Drops just short of the fielder at close-up of covers. Back of a length delivery over the leg stump line and Sandhu sways this with soft hands towards short of covers. 1 needed of 1 ball with a wicket in hand.
OHHHHH MY GOSHHH!!!!!! Sandhu, the Saviour. 1 run to win from 2 balls after that six, any more twist left for this match. But one thing is for sure this is not for the weak-hearted.
19.4 B Webster to G Sandhu
6 SIXXXXXX!! What an insane contest of bat and ball we are witnessing here at the Manuka Oval!! Back of a length delivery from the bowler and Sandhu pulls it over the ropes this time. Sandhu cleared the front foot and whacked it across the line over the deep mid wicket region, bisecting two fielders. The boundary check did occur and it was a six as confirmed by the TV umpire!!
7 runs needed of 3 balls!!
19.3 B Webster to B Doggett
1 Length delivery around the off and Doggett turns this past the mid on region and collects a single. Sandhu will be on strike.

THIS IS UNBELIVEABLEEEEEE!!!!!!! It was 8 runs to be scored from 6 balls and Webster comes in and picks up two wickets of two deliveries. The match is for the Stars to lose. OH THE THRILLS OF BBL!!!!!! The bowler is on a Hat-Trick!!!
19.2 B Webster to F Farooqi
W WICKETTTTT!! Webster cleans up Farooqi this time. 8 runs needed from 4 balls now with a wicket in hand. Length delivery, hits the bull's eyes!! Farooqi swings blindly at it and watches the cork clatter at the poles. Insane battle here at the heart of Suburban Canberra!! Webster is on a hattrick!!
