Match Details
Ovaise: A compressive victory for the mighty Aussies, they have won the match by 9 wickets and inch closer to the GOLD MEDAL advancing to the Semi-Finals!!
Earlier in the day, Australia won the toss and decided to bowl first on a dry-looking surface! The experienced opening pair of skipper Hayley Matthews and Deandra Dottin walked out to open the batting for Barbados, together they stitched a partnership of 20 runs before Darcie Brown got the first breakthrough dismissing the Matthews on 18.
Dottin has an unusual day out in the middle, she took 22 balls to score just 8 runs, unlike what you expect and have seen from her in the past. The second wicket was taken by Alan King and it went downhill from there, Barbados kept losing wickets at regular intervals and there were no partnerships whatsoever.
Alana King bamboozled the Barbados batters who found it very hard with Alana’s variations and change of pace. She bowled a terrific spell of 4-1-8-4 and was on a hat trick too when skipper Meg Lanning dropped a quite simple chance at first slip. Tahlia McGrath picked up three wickets, Gardner chipped in with two wickets and Darcie Brown picked one wicket. Barbados women lost 8 wickets for just 25 runs!! An extremely disappointing performance, none of the batters showed any resistance and were bundled out for just 64 runs!!
The Australian opening pair of Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney walked out to bat and everyone was expecting the game to get over soon, but Beth was stumped early, on the second ball of the second over bowled by Jamila Bruce. Skipper Meg Lanning joined Healy in the middle and together they saw their team to a brilliant victory, taking the team to the Semi-Finals! The Aussies finished the game on the 1st ball of the 9th over, Alyssa Healy was not out on 23 of 24 balls and Meg Lanning too was unbeaten on 36 of just 21 balls!!
