Player Bio

Shakera Selman has been a veteran in the West Indies Women’s team since her debut in 2008. A right-arm medium-pacer who opens the bowling for the Women in Maroon. She is a quality bowler who can get deliveries to zing past the heads and can also swing the ball back in.

She comes from Barbados where Selman’s ambition of becoming a cricketer began. The pacer started from playing the sport at her school and then graduated to don the West Indies’ colors after representing Barbados in the domestic circles.

Selman first played for West Indies in 2008 when she travelled to Ireland to play her maiden ODI and T20I matches. The pacer then had a couple of assignments against Netherlands and England to cement her feet at the highest level.

In 2009, Selman was picked to play the World Cup Down Under where she bagged nine wickets to finish as the second-highest wicket-taker for West Indies in the tournament. As her career progressed, she played various ICC events.

However, Selman wasn’t part of the victorious West Indies squad during the 2016 World T20. In 2017, she suffered a major knee injury that led to a lengthy rehabilitation. The pacer made a comeback in 2018 during the home series against South Africa, just before the 20-over World Cup at home.

In 2021, he commentated during the domestic Super50 tournament that tells a mind as Shakera Selman would to sticking around the sport after she hangs up her boots. However, that is way down the down as the pacer has a lot left in her.
