Arya- This was never going to be a tall ask for the Delhi Capitals and they could have only stuttered if the KKR new ball bowlers got early wickets. The start was exactly what the doctor ordered for the two time champions as Prithvi Shaw was dismissed in the very first delivery of the innings. It was a full ball angling away and he just closed the face of the bat a bit early and it was a great return catch from Umesh Yadav.
David Warner then took on Umesh Yadav in the first over itself as he collected 11 runs to totally shift the momentum in DC’s favour. He looked in great shape and played some delightful shots straight up. Mitchell Marsh who came in at the fall of Prithvi Shaw’s wicket was dismissed by debutant Harshit Rana as a fuller-length delivery angling into Marsh was hit straight down the throat of the deep backward square leg fielder.
Warner kept on playing some good shots after he was joined by Lalit Yadav. The duo batted sensibly and never allowed the required rate to creep up. A partnership of 55 runs laid the platform for the finishing touch but three quick wickets in the middle phase of the innings put them on the backfoot. Umesh Yadav came back in his 2nd spell and bagged the prized wickets of David Warner and Rishabh Pant to reduce DC to 84/5 in the 12th over.
The required rate wasn’t very demanding and it needed some sensible batting from the rest of the batters to get their side over the finishing line. Axar Patel struck some beautiful shots in the 16th over of Andre Russell which resulted in the required rate dropping to just run a ball. Rovman Powell then took on the attack to Venkatesh Iyer in the 17th over which made the equation 16 required of the last three overs.
Powell managed to get the fours and sixes at important junctures which never really allowed KKR to have a say in the last three overs. Shreyas Iyer brought himself into the attack in the penultimate over and didn’t concede any run in the first four deliveries. Shardul gave the strike to Rovman Powell on the 5th delivery and the Caribbean big-hitter then finished off proceedings with a six over long-on.
