Match Details
Earlier, Western Australia won the toss and opted to bat. But they didn’t start well as they lost a couple of quick wickets early in the proceedings. They were 15/2 as Daniel Sams picked up both the openers cheaply. At this point Shaun Marsh (29 off 47) and Cameron Bancroft (39 off 57) added a partnership of 61-runs for the third wicket. During this period Marsh came up with a calf issue. Kurtis Patterson introduced Adam Zampa and he took three wickets in a flash leaving Western Australia at 89/6. It was thought that the innings would get over sooner but another partnership of 59-runs for the seventh wicket between Aaron Hardie (27 off 47) and Jhye Richardson (44 off 64) put them back in the contest. Hayden Kerr came back for his last spell and took a couple of wickets to put the pressure back on Western Australia as they were tumbling near an all-out. They were 173-9 after 42.4-overs and should have been closed down before 200. But a record last wicket partnership of unbeaten 52-runs between Matthew Kelly (27 off 30)* and Jason Behrendorff (24 off 22)* yielded them some crucial runs in the end.
Adam Zampa bowled a magnificent spell of 10-1-40-3. And he was well supported by his partner Tanveer Sangha as he picked a wicket. Daniel Sams was very good with his new ball and slog overs spells as they read in total 10-0-45-3. Hayden Kerr was good at the later stages and picked a couple of wickets to restrict Western Australia to 225/9in their allotted 50-overs.
Chasing their 12th title in the Australian Domestic One-Day competition, New South Wales started steadily till Matthew Gilkes (20 off 26) edged one to the keeper. Just after a couple of overs they lost their other opener as well. Daniel Hughes (20 off 44) chipped one straight back to the bowler. Aaron Hardie took these two wickets after replacing Jhye Richardson after his magnificent new ball spell. But before that the openers added a solid 42-runs for the first wicket.
Then Moises Henriques and skipper Kurtis Patterson (23 off 30) added 38-runs for the third wicket. At this time Western Australia skipper handed over the ball to Andrew Tye who took three wickets in a cluster and was on a hattrick at one time. Jhye Richardson double bluffed Baxter Holt before he left the field due to a leg injury. They were at 108/6 after 26.4-overs.
Then Daniel Sams joined hands with Moises Henriques and added 60-crucial runs for the seventh wicket. Sams was batting aggressively and scored a quick fire 42 off 41-balls before he was the third victim to Aaron Hardie.
