That's the end of our coverage for this game. This is me, Akshay Bhide, signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Saptak Sanyal and Nikhil Kalla, and our scorer Chandan. Tata. Bye Bye.
Akshay: That’s the
end of the game. A solid performance from Yorkshire Vikings sees them defeat
the Worcestershire Rapids by seven wickets with 11 balls to spare. They get off
to a winning start as the Rapids were completely outplayed in this game. The partnership between Joe Root and Harry Brook completely blew away the Rapids as the latter remained unbeaten on 60 off just 27 balls. Both put up 87 between them to complete a comprehensive victory. Worcestershire
skipper Ben Cox won the toss and opted to bat first. They got off to a decent
start but they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Jack Haynes stood tall
against the Yorkshire’s bowlers as he brought up his fifty. He was removed by
Revis on 61 in the 12th over and the Rapids lost their way. None of
the lower-order batters contributed as they finished their innings on 172 for
the loss of nine wickets. Jordan Thompson starred with the ball for the Vikings
as he picked up three wickets. The Vikings
got off to a flying start, thanks to Adam Lyth and Dawid Malan who scored 59
runs in the powerplay. Both put up an opening stand of 70. The game was
slipping away from the Rapids but they fought back with three wickets in quick
succession. Skipper Joe Root along with Harry Brook steadied the ship. Brook came
out with intent and played some sensational strokes. There was no stopping him
as he brought up his fifty off just 23 balls. He was well-supported by his
skipper Joe Root from the other end. The Rapids failed to create further
inroads as the pair of Root and Brook guided their side across the line. Both
Root and Brook remained unbeaten on 35 and 60 respectively and ensured that
there were no further hiccups in the chase.
NIKHIL: That's it here for the first game as Yorkshire has defeated Worcestershire here in Leeds. This was a contest until Brook walked in the bat but as soon as he walked out to bat this game turned into a highlight package as he was hitting it all around the park.
18.1 C Morris to H Brook
4 FOUR!!! So we close this game with a boundary here. Fuller delivery on his pads and he has flicked this of his pads towards the fine leg boundary for a four that watches the hosts win this.
