Match Details
They got off to a slow start as the Namibian batters looked to take the pace off the ball and bowl into the wicket from the very beginning. Muhammad Waseem held one end and scored a gritty half century. He was well aided by Rizwaan at the other end.
Waseem was dismissed in the 15th over of the innings when the score of the team was 97/2. At this stage Basil Hameed walked in and started to build the momentum for his team. In the last 5 overs UAE scored 51 runs and posted a fighting total of 148 runs in their 20 overs. Rizwan remained unbeaten at 43 runs off 29 deliveries. The pick of the bowlers for Namibia was B Scholtz, who bowled four overs and conceded 22 runs for 1 wicket.
The Namibian team needed to just win this match in order to qualify for the super 12. But the start to their innings was very unstable to say the least. They lost 3 wickets within the first 6 overs for just 34 runs.
The fall of wickets continued as they lost two more in the 8th over. By this time their innings was completely derailed and the target was looking way too far to be achieved. As the halfway mark approached, Namibia was 53/5 .
After this they lost two more wickets in the 13th over from Zahoor, there was nothing much left in the match. With 64 runs needed off the last 30 balls the onus was on David Wiese to take Namibia through.
Wiese did not disappoint his fans and played a blinder of a knock. He scored 55 off 36 balls and took his team to the brink of an unbelievable victory. But his dismissal on the 4th ball of the final over meant that Namibia fell short of the target by 8 runs. In the end Namibia managed to reach 141 runs in their 20 overs.
With that the Netherlands and Sri Lanka qualified for the Super 12 stage.
