Player Bio

A wily left-arm orthodox bowler, Bernard Scholtz is a Namibian cricketer and has an elder brother, Nicholaas who has played first-class cricket in Namibia.

Scholtz made his debut for Namibia in the 2008 Under-19 World Cup. Even though Namibia bowed out of the group stage, but Scholtz impressed everyone and bagged 6 wickets under his belt. In the same year, he earned an opportunity to make his first-class debut which turned out to be a horror start for him, getting dismissed for a second-ball duck in his debut innings.

Post-2010, fortunes changed for Scholtz as he piled up runs for fun in the domestic circuit. And as a result, he was named the 2016 Player of the Year by Cricket Namibia at their annual awards ceremony.

Scholtz justified his 'Player of the Year' award with another scintillating 2017 season, where he picked up 35 wickets in nine matches for Namibia.

He eventually made his T20I debut for Namibia against Ghana in 2019 and picked up his maiden T20I wicket in the match as Namibia won the match by 9 wickets.

Ahead of the 2021 ICC World T20 tournament, Scholtz was drafted in the Namibian squad for the competition and the team management has a lot of faith in Scholtz’s ability, especially on the slow and low tracks offered in UAE.
