Match Details
The lower-order batters set up the game nicely for New
Zealand as they posted 163 on the board after being asked to bat first. Glenn
Phillips and Jimmy Neesham remained unbeaten on 39 and 35 respectively to help
them post a respectable total on the board. Namibia bowled brilliantly in the
first phase of the innings but leaked runs in the end as the Kiwis finished on
163.
It was a steady start by the Namibian openers, scoring 36
runs in the powerplay. The pressure was building and the New Zealand bowlers
kept a lid on the scoring rate as the Namibian batters succumbed to the pressure
and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. There weren’t any healthy
contributions from them and eventually they finished on 117, falling short by 52 runs. Tim Southee and Trent Boult picked two wickets apiece with the spinners
doing a fine job in the middle overs.
